What's a fair offer for grazing?

We are moving house in 2 weeks and there's a lovely field adjoining the house. The ground is too hilly/stony for cutting hay but the farmer grazes cows and sheep. A new farmer is taking over the tenancy in autumn and OH knows him through a friend so we are hoping to move the horses over if we can persuade the farmer to rent us some land.

We haven't actually talked money yet so I was wondering what might be a sensible offer if we can catch him in a good mood?! We would fence off a section ourselves if need be (he's apparently not keen on horses) so I'm talking literally just grazing plus the corner of a barn for storing hay and feed. I was thinking maybe £80 a month is reasonable? That's £1000 a year... might that be enough to persuade him?!

Sorry, can't help on the figures side but work on the basis if you don't ask, you won't find out .... Good luck, hope it works out for you

£80 sounds good. I pay £40 per month for 3 acres, 2 stables, tack room & small barn but that would be per horse (only have 1 so works out cheap!) That was what the bloke asked for when I was cheeky enough to knock on his door & ask if I could rent it - I was willing to pay more so was very happy :) good luck xx

I paid £15 per week for a 2 acre field with running water. So that is good. A lot of farmers dont like horse people or horses! But like to sell us some hay!
