I'm looking at saddles, i've got a Wintec wide on my chunky monkey but unfortunately i don't like it! I've got a lovely Ideal Event with a wide seat that i had for my recently retire warmblood but obviously with doesn't fit the chunky monkey.
So question is, i'm looking on the Ideal site and it says "The cut of this saddle means it falls between a General Purpose and a VSD" what is a VSD? Sorry if it's blindingly obvious

VSD - Very Slightly Dressage, so basically it is a GP but with the flaps slightly straighter than normal.

I have one and also a 2000 GP. Depends what we are doing - as DG says the VSD is good for schooling/hacking chunkies. I'm not wholly sure but I think the stirrup bars maybe in a slightly different position from the GP, although that could just be my trick pelvis

I have an Ideal VSD and I find it great for both flatwork and jumping. It is cut back at the shoulder yet has enough knee roll for you to feel secure.

In fact I love it so much that when current horse gets beyond ridden work I may have to buy another horse to fit my saddle!

I love my Ideal VSD, it's good for both dressage and jumping, and also looks smart in the show ring, the slightly straighter cut shows off her shoulder a bit more.

The VSD was designed originally by an ex-boss of mine. It is designed to free up the shoulders of chunkier horses with big shoulders, whose action becomes compromised by a 'normal' GP saddle.

I've had my Ideal VSD for 12 years approx and love it to bits. It was bought for my first horse who was sadly PTS in 2002. When I got my new horse I said to the dealer 'I'll take her if my saddle fits her!' Thankfully it did! It was converted to flair shortly after I bought it and just gets a check once a year to make sure it still fits. Both my horses were round barrelled & lacking in withers and this type of saddle seems to suit this build of horse.
