What's best to keep guts moving in an old gent...

As title really..... Our lovely old boy is 35, happy in himself, missing a few teeth and a bit of a fussy feeder, he already has NAF Pink Powder, but was wondering if anyone could suggest anything else to keep him regular?!

A lady on the yard has suggested Psyllium Husks, have used this before when on sandy grazing...

I have an old girl and i give her a normal feed with a couple of cups of warm bran in daily its not very expensive and she loves to have a warm feed on these cold days. i also give her a cup of baileys stud balancer it has all the vitamins in it they need it keeps her looking fantastic and also has an additive that i forget the name of that helps gut function. I believe from my experience its better than top spec or blue chip and is only £18 per bag !
 
My mum usual Biotal equine gold for her 27 year old ex world class eventer and he looked fantastic despite a very hard working life. Sadly we lost him due to a recurrent tendon injury.
 
Just keep his fibre intake up.

The 37 (38 this year) year old here gets a variety of Allen & Page Fast Fibre, Veteran Mollichaff with speedibeet and high fibre nuts. He also gets ad lib hay and is moved to the paddocks with the longest grass and taken for in hand walks to get the long grass.
 
Allen & Page Fast Fibre

As the name suggests is a fibre feed that needs to be soaked although it is a quick soak (about 12 mins I think from memory) and is ideal for 'old people' with missing teeth.

[/ QUOTE ]I agree but would go a little further and say that good quality fibre is important . Late cut hay is less digestable ,as the plant cell walls have become lignified and are indigestable. Water intake is also vital. Especialy in cold weather,add a little hot water to his bucket to encourage drinking.
