As above really, i dont know what to rug with these cold snap we are having atm, mine have got 100g on during the day and 200/220g on at night but they were both a bit chilly this morning, i dont clip but i usually manage to keep them warm enough that they dont really grow a winter coat all winter. Thanks
 
Nothing as yet, mine doesn't seem to feel the cold.
She's the only one in the barn who isn't rugged, all the others have lightweight stable rugs on at night and either a mid or lightweight turnout in he day.
 
Mum's ID x isn't clipped and has a 100g at night and lightweight in the day (unless it's really warm, in which case lightweight at night and nothing in the day). She's out 24/7. She can lose a lot of condition if she gets cold or stressed so there's no point in messing around with her, we just rug her up. Keeps her clean too - we're lazy!
 
Nothing yet! George will be clipped but not until next month at least. He is out all day and in at night and does tend to be quite a hot horse. Keeping an eye on him, may have to crack out his thin stable sheet soon!
 
31 year old TBx and 16 year old conniex both in rain sheets at night only. They were very happy to have them off this morning as they were quite warm. Another connie x., TBx, and highland not rugged yet.
 
my oldie is out in either LW combo or today as its soo chilly mid weight with no fill neck attached and LW stable rug at night, but he has become soo fluffy in the last week as iv been busy mum has done him...she leaves rug changing to me!! Its so hard tho as everyday weather soo diff so hard to know what to rug when, if v hot he is nude in day but always rugged at night
 
Absolutely horrible weather up here still! Rain, wind and cold anyway. Both mine in 100g rugs with neck rugs. Rain sheet over the top to help with waterproofness! Horses body temperature varies throughout the day. So may feel not as toasty in their rug as they have a slightly lower temperature at that time. I find the best gauge to be how much they clamp the tail down. If they are cold, tail will be well clamped between bum cheeks. If they are not cold there may be some tension when you initially touch tail bone but if its not jammed in they aren't struggling with the cold. Good way to warm your hand up too :p
 
Nothing at the moment. I'm going on hols in a couple of weeks and life will be easier all round if he just gets hairy then my YO won't have to change rugs etc. So, much as I like my horse to be clipped out, he's currently turning into a yak with winter coat and growing feathers. He is the only one at the yard who isn't rugged though; the rest are all in LW turnouts and LW stable rugs when in.
 
Mine had medium weight stable rug on last night and lightweight on today in field. It dropped to 4 or 5 last night here and i think it's doing the same tomight. I hate winter!
 
Ours are all unrugged still at the moment. They have lots of shelter available if they want it but live out 24/7. I very nearly gave in on Friday night due to the forecast but they were toasty warm when I got there at 7am yesterday, despite it being 2 degrees.

Once there are cold biting winds and lots of rain the rugs will definitely go on. I'm not anti rugs in the slightest and know that lots of horses need to be rugged up the majority of the time due to age, health, how thin skinned they are etc.
 
36yr old in a lightweight combo but has it removed in daytime if weather reasonable, will go into her mediumweight in the next few weeks though as she's hard to keep weight on.

Shirex nothing ATM but will have a standard lighweight on if it rains which I think it's meant to do this week. Our field is pretty exposed and in my experience it's the wind and rain together that gets them. However he will only have the rug on if nec and will hopefully remain out most of the winter naked xx
 
NFx - nothing during day, sweet itch rug at night (for dawn and dusk just to be safe as still warmish during day).

WBx ponies - fleece and rain sheet as they live out.

TB - fleece during day with rain sheet on top if outside, and fleece + MW at night.
 
He has a 400g stable rug on at night and 450 t/o with snuggy hood in the day.
Fully clipped not a hair over 2mm long on him!!
And he shall stay that way for at least 5 weeks please!
