I'm thinking about taking my Fell Pony to a local (fairly small) agricultural show next month (1st horse I've ever shown). Is it just what the judge asks you and wants to see? Any other tips?!

Use an inhand bridle or a ridden bridle with reins over his/her head
Brown tack
You
Tweed jacket or a waistcoat
Shirt with a collar
Tie
Hat
Show cane

You will walk in, stopped by the steward and run one at a time in front of the judge.

They will pull them in

When your turn. Stand your pony square, with one leg behind, judg will take a look, ask age

Then walk away in a straight line, push pony round in a circle. Get straight and trot away.

Practise running up in hand, good luck!

Okay..you'll all walk around together, then the steward usually will stop you all for to to individually trot out in front of the judge and then pull up to the last person, once everyone has done this, you'll be asked to walk on again then the judge usually picks his top ponies, this can change after your individual show. For your show, walk out and line your pony up and get him/ her to stand as square as possible or at least square in front, try to keep your ponies attention do that their ears are nicely pricked and the overall picture looks good. When asked to do your show, walk away confidentially for a good few paces then slightly walk off to create a bulb shape so that when you turn you're on the same track you walked up, walk two strides then trot, try not to trot as you turn as this can look rushed. Trot past the judge and keep going past the back of the line up & once finished nod / smile at the judge and return to your place.
Just make sure your both looking good and enjoy:-)) x
