What's good for gassy tummies?

This time of year my horse always gets a gassy belly and he was rather uncomfortable a couple of days ago but, by the time the vet came, he was fine again so didn't need treatment. Would a probiotic help? Is there anything else you could recommend? Why do I never think to ask questions until the vet has gone.

I give my spasmodic colic prone girly Protexin. It does seem to help.
I also try to give a minimum of a slice/section/flake of hay/haylage morning and night to make sure they have enough fibre (lush short grass isn't good for fibre).

Thanks, I did wonder about coligone, I'll take a look at the website. Yes, the wind is from too much grass, even though I'm stabling a lot more to try and prevent it.

A damn fine question...don't know...it's at the yard. I buy it through my vets...as I can't source it otherwise.
I'll look at the container tonight.

Like Shilasdair I make sure mine gets some hay every day, it does seem to help. If he has to be stabled when he's got a bellyfull of gas I try to take him for a brisk trot after he's been stood in for an hour or so - according to my vet it just shakes everything up, makes sure his gut's moving & hopefully stops him getting colicky. It's also cheap though it doesn't do much for his temper!

Daisy used to be really gassy and we seem to have sorted it with a combination of Pink Powder, restricted grazing and ad lib hay to keep her gut moving
