well just wondered what everyone uses for bedding?

and where you get from ie do you buy in bulk and get it delivered or do you buy as and when you need etc?

i buy as and when from the feed store on site

I use straw and go and collect it from a local farmer in my wagon, bit of a pain but worth it to give my big lad a very big bed and saves me a fortune.

Straw all the way. It makes for fantastic, huge deep littered beds – so cosy in winter! I hate shavings, nowt wrong with them, just personal preference. Never used any other type of bedding.

YO gets massive square bales of straw that you pull slices from – they’re about 6 foot long and 2 foot high, so one slice will do me for a week!

Aubiose, and I buy about 3 or 4 bales at a time which lasts a month.

You could have added hemp to your poll then those of us who use Aubiose and Hemcore wouldn't have had to tick 'other'.

I have 3 ponies on straw and 2 on shavings. The 2 that are on shavings are because they both eat large amounts of their beds if they are on straw. I go about once a week to a farm not far from me to get hay, straw and shavings.

I pay £1/slice for hay and straw (hay is in a similar sized bale - slices are approx 6' x 2') on top of £16/week DIY livery (horse out 24/7).

In winter, the bill changes to £132/month for DIY including all hay and straw, bit more expensive for haylage or shavings.

Straw, little bales delivered in smallish quantities as an when I need it to save my very limited storage, by brilliant local farmer who doesn't charge me any extra for the privilege!!

Ldlp- your shavings are cheap! Around here they're usually £8 or £9 a bale at least.

I use pellet bedding, we got it delivered in bulk- 1 pallet is 100 bags, think a pallet lasts about a month but that's for 2 horses, 1 in over-night only, the other on full time box rest.

I use shavings (£7 per bale from yard) mixed with shredded paper that I get free from work. This is over rubber matting so don't use a huge amount. 1 bale of shavings and about 6 bags of paper (a bit bigger than black bags) last about a month. I'm lucky in that my boy has a huge stable with his bed on the back half but he usually stands, and therefore poos by his hay bar at the front so I only have to take a small bit of wet bedding out each day. The paper is really absorbent so the wet stays in a very small area.

Rubber mats and straw. Straw is supplied by yard and is £20 for a medium sized large bale which lasts 1 horse a month. Only problem is, it can be dusty and bales vary. Would like to switch to something else but haven't the storage space to buy in bulk and everything else is just SOOOO expensive ATM.

I use shavings. Buying in bulk direct from manufacturers costing £5.29 a bale delivered (min 2 pallets). If I run out have to pop to feed merchants where they are £8.30 a bale for Snowflake. Use about 3 bales of shavings per week between 2 horses. Have used Wood Pellets previously but was using about 7 10kg bags a week (1 very wet horse used 4 bags min a week).
