whats involved in different types of livery?

ive only ever had full (on a RS yard and the pony was only on loan) and diy. the full livery literally everything was provided as it was a riding school, feed, farrier, vet etc. Then DIY is obviously just that.

after a think after all the stuff i had pelted at me last night on here, ive decided to maybe look for a yard with part livery.

Can someone please tell how part livery works and what is involved in it, rough costs etc.

Hi there, I am on part livery and I pay £485 a month, although I am down south where it is more expensive.

This includes all feed, wood chip bedding, ad lib hay and everything done except riding and grooming. I book my own vet and farrier appts but the yard will hold my boy if I can't be there.

The yard has very good hacking and a floodlit 40x20 school.

I go up pretty much every evening to ride, I also skip out (I don't have to but like to) and the YM leaves George's night time soaked hay outside which I put in in the eve to try to stop him scoffing it all at once!

I have to pay for farrier, vet, dentist etc and also worming although the YM does the actual worming.

I could do DIY but I work in London and have to commute every day and sometimes get stuck at work / on a train, so knowing he is ok is a godsend. It also means I can still spend time with my OH, which we both want to and means he doesn't resent my horse. I still find I have an excellent bond with George and it certainly works for us.

My friend is on part livery. She has her horse looked after Monday to Friday by the yard staff including feeds made, mucked out, rugs changed, turned out, brought in, feet picked out and legs washed, skipped out if for some reason her horse stays in (e.g. lame) and haynets made and put in. The yard buys all the feed, hay and straw. The yard chooses the feed and I think she has a limited right to object as she can only choose what is in their feed room as otherwise she would have to pay for it herself. Any supplements she would have to buy herself but they will feed. They do poopicking during the week.
She looks after the horse herself at the weekends although the yard still makes up the feeds for her and possibly the haynets, I'm not sure. She also has to do poopicking at the weekend.
They don't groom apart from washing legs I don't think. They also don't ride or clean tack. If for some reason my friend can't get down - like Gorgeous George, she works in London, but her horse is in Essex, and her OH has horse envy(!) she is happy enough to leave the horse in the care of the yard knowing her basic needs have been catered for and she will have exercised herself in the field. She pays about £500 a month I think. The yard also does seven day livery with exactly the same services to include the weekend.
Horses for courses - it wouldn't suit me - I have an arthritic old dear who needs riding every day and I can't stand other people mucking out for me but I would love someone to do my poopicking and clean my tack as I just don't have time - just I have to ride my own horse, muck out my own stable and groom my own horse. I would be a nightmare on full livery! (And have been!)

Diy- you do everything.
Assisted- same as diy, but with the option of paying extra for services.
Part- normal jobs done, eg turning out, stable etc. But riding, grooming, tack cleaning etc not included.
Full- same as part but includes riding & grooming etc.
Competition livery- as full but also schooling, turning out for comps etc. Basically if owner wants, they only need to turn up at a comp, mount & ride.
Working- horses daily needs cared for in exchange for being used in a rs or similar.
However, always double check with the actual yard, exactly what is included varies. And plenty mix & match too, so you could have part livery Mon to Fri & diy wkend. Or assisted livery where they'll offer full livery if you go on holiday etc.

Part livery can vary on different yards.

I am 5/2 livery, this is full liv Mon-Fri and DIY Weekends with extras having individual charges.

What you need to do is work out what you need doing and work out the cheapest/easiest way of doing it, for example it may be cheaper in the long run to be full liv Mon-Fri than adding up a load of extras.

Didn't read the thread properly! Ooops.

Part livery round here varies from all tasks for the horse and feed etc included, but without exercise for about £90-100 a week.
Others do weekdays but not weekends, similar pricing. And others cater for the needs of the owner ie. needs mucking out and turning out Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri and Sunday mornings.

Most contain a basic food ration (chaff and a simple mix) and forage ad lib.

I think the price also reflects the experience of the staff and the facilities available.
