Hi Everyone!

I'm new here but have been riding for seven years now and am conducting some market research about what riders and horse owners wish they had to help their day to day lives. Please add your comments on this thread, even if it is just to have a groan about some of the things that make your horsey life difficult ;)

Thank you!

This isn’t a big one, but I really want some prettier brushing boots on the market! Apart from the ones that cost an absolute fortune, matchy options are very limited. It’s a first-world problem, I know ?

A quick release lunge line which releases near the bridle/cavasson. Then if your horse decides to do wall of death, the lunge line releases and you don't have to worry about the horse getting tangled up or going waterskiing on dry land.

Remove plastics from horse industry products and move back to sustainably produced goods. Or just tax the plastic rubbish heavily. Do you really need a sparkly plastic grooming kit?

Move back to wooden backed brushes, stainless steel buckets, recyclable rubber feed bins.

Oh golly... that would mean canvas New Zealand rugs and jute stable rugs...

You are right though, it's amazing how much plastic there is in modern horse stuff.

A machine that you shovel bedding into, that separates poo, dries wet, and spits out fluffy, dry bedding at the other end.

A portable, safe box rest pen that you can put them in during the day for a bit of fresh air and a bite of grass.

A collapsible mounting block that goes into a backpack.

a book about keeping different types of horses in today`s circumstances, diy, full livery, own yard, and all the problems that arise and solutions and clever ways of dealing with the people involved, how to make it all work, get on that horse and ride

An electric mains fencer that gives a powerful kck to horses but doesnt affect humans. Hopefully costing less than £100. I have battery ones that work better than the mains ones so not sure why that is

Ha ha ha - whilst I am still a fan of a Canvas rug with genuine wool lining, I’m not sure I could do it for a winter and jute stable rugs I just couldn’t.

Justifying my modern synthetic rugs by buying quality rugs that last and reproofing them with Nikwax each season has made on of my Rambos last 13 seasons.

A fold down mounting block that attaches securely somehow to your wagon or trailer so you don’t have to be worried about it being stolen while you are out riding. You can simply fold it up and secure it before you set off driving again.

Another bedding machine, but some sort of bio-digester so bedding/poo goes in, electricity and beautiful compost come out

I've often thought this would be a good idea. I actually made on a few years ago, just to see how far off optimal a thrown together one would be - quite far off! It's difficult to speed up and capture the reaction without a warm climate and a put buried in the ground. I ended up slow burning in mine, and did manage to get break even on energy in vs energy out, but it didn't inspire me enough to continue :p
