My filly is costing me a fortune she is on straw and needs a bale every day and thats even with me saving as much as i can she is really wet and poohie. So any info on other suitable beddings for dirty horses would be most appreciated :) thanks.

LOL im glad im not the only one with a dirty filly! mines on straw n i have to add a bale every other day n got 2 fully loaded wheelbarrows out nearly every day.shes only 9 mths n people think i dont have to get much out ,but she stirs it all up nice lol!

If you're on rubber mats then I used Sundown Yellow for a very dirty filly and that worked well. She had a heap in the centre of the box to lie on, a small heap in her 'wee corner' to soak that up and it would just get swept out each morning; the centre heap, her bed, got left as she never wet or mucked on that. A bale would last me a week that way.
If you're not on mats then perhaps wood pellets might help as they're very quick to muck out and are cheaper than shavings by far.

Yikes, that does sound mucky! Generally straw is by far the cheapest option but if your using a bale a day, you could probably get two bales of bedmax for this price, I find bedmax really good but with a mucky mare you may still end up throwing quite a bit out each day!

After trying straw, shavings, bedmax, easibed and back to shavings again i now use cushionbed and it's been the best so far. My mare is generally still quite mucky (very, very wet) but i find when it's deep littered the poo seems to sit on top more rather than being mushed around into the bed and most of the wee sinks to the bottom and out of the way. I have to dig off the top layer of wet every week or so and top up but it doesnt cost half as much as other beddings have. I live close to the manufacturer though so can collect rather than having it delivered. I pay £2.75 +VAT for a bale, not sure how much it would be if delivered, and use approx 2 bales per week.

My 18 month old is on a mix of Aubiose and wood pellets, although gradually moving to wood pellets as they are cheaper.

7 year old Stinkyknickers girlie is on exactly the same, altho shes so wet as well as ploppy that I'll probably carry on with the mix, 3 parts pellets to one part gold dust (Aubiose). It works out much cheaper than shavings or other bedding as the poo stays on top (in a small atoll in her case) and the wee is absorbed where its weed, it doesnt get kicked around.
