I have a 6 year old tb mare, I need something to help her keep weight on as she is not a very good doer, she can also be a little lazy and i do work her very hard - 1hr in the school at least 2/3 times a week a fairly fast hard going hack 3/4 times a week and show jump most weekends with only one day off. I dont want her to fizz up as she is a young tb mare and can have a bit of attitude somethimes!! (she is also chestnut) I have her on alfa a, high fibre mix and a balancer at the mo. What does every one else think would be best for her......thanks for your help xx

Barley is great. puts on weight and gives energy with out adding fizz. either get flaked barley or the barley rings you have to soak.

If you want to keep it high fibre and low sugar/starch then you could switch the Alfa A (10 MJ/kg) for Alfa A Oil (12.5 MJ/kg) which would give a 25 % calorie increase for the same amount of feed in the bowl or try adding Speedibeet (12.4 MJ/kg) or Coolstance (15 MJ/kg).

i would put her on a comp mix, it didnt make my tb go silly, i use dodsen and horrel one, soya oil is good for stamina and all round condition, i use that with chaff and solid gold balancer and speedibeet, and i school most of the time for aff dressage and the soya oil has helped alot as he doesnt get tired so quickly.

i use competition mix by dodsen and horrel to give my boy a bit more energy for things doesnt make him stupid meant i could work him harder to get him fit for the summer after having all winter off from injuryies
