What's the best hosepipe and the best way of keeping it tidy?

I am looking at getting a new hosepipe for the yard. I need one that doesn't split too easily as I'm sure my horses stand on it on purpose and chuckle to them selves!
Also, I want to be able to tidy it away so it's not laying out on the yard all the time. I have seen those 'hose tidy' things you can buy, and I have seen people fix a wheel onto the wall to wrap it around? Any more good ideas? I want to be able to clip it on and off the tap when needed to.
I think I need it about 15 m. Does anyone know of a good one to get? I have googled, but it's hard to tell which are sturdy enough.
 
Ours is wall mounted on a reel thingamyjig so it's out of the way, I *think* it's made by Hozelock but I can check it tonight, you can just connect it to the tap as and when you need it...
 
Thanks for the replies guys. Is it a problem with a hose on a reel that there might be water left in it when it freezes? Or is this when you could put the end of the hose into a big tub and leave it to trickle all night?
 
Well in terms of a mobile hosepipe I have been through 3 for my lorry and in the end cheap was not good

Flat hoses are a waste of space, and cheap pipe is a false economy - so eBay bargain is in the bin and I gave a cheapo tesco one to dad as it kinked more than a politician answering a question. I ended up with a proper hoselock one (which was actually on special in tesco!)

So whatever you consider if you are going to be using it a lot, get hozelock!
 
Yes it does tend to freeze up when we've had a really cold snap.... but then so do all of the taps that are dotted around the yard so makes no difference in my case anyway!
 
Ref the freezing - never had a problem with yellow hozelock pipe, but the odd squirty head attachment gets killed as if you forget to take them off the water will crack the plastic.
 
A friend of mine told me last week that she has one which coils itself up like a spring - I think she got it from Wilkinsons or similar. Not sure how it would stand up to freezing etc but might be easy to transport inside to keep it out of the cold!
 
Maizy - Do you think one of these would be ok with quite weak pressure? I have mains water, but only medium pressure, so not sure if it would like going upwards! Very handy for bathing them, they wouldn't be able to stand on it anymore!

Hozelock winning at the moment!.....

I would have thought so, it still works when someone else turns another tap on, thus reducing the pressure elsewhere. They really are great, and it works well with the thick yellow hose, maybe a Hozelock hose?
 
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've found a Hozelock wall mounted unit on ebay, and I am going to ask for the Boom for Christmas! Sorted.

Im planning some new shelving for shampoo and washing stuff now.......
 
Another vote for hozelock wall mounted reels, we've got four dotted round my yard. They're quite expensive, about £90 if I remember right but well worth it, we've got self retracting and wind up, tend to find the liveries are more likely to put the self retracting one away than the wind up
