What would be the best joint supplement for Toto (thats not going to cost a bomb!) :p
He's a slightly cobby 14.1hh, almost 15, is ridden 5/6 days a week and is an allrounder, doing showing/working hunter in summer, he jumps once a week occasionally twice if got a show, up to 3ft normally smaller, flatwork and hacking the rest of the time. He currently gets garlic and brewers yeast, he did get a Gold Label herbal joint supplement but theres probably better ones out there, any suggestions? Thanks :) x

One vet recommended cortaflex so i use that. I have also been told be another vet that you should look to spend around the £40-£70 mark as anything cheaper just isnt as effective. Think you get what you pay for with these things. Recent research has shown glucosamine does nothing bt it surprises me how many still use it.

I'm like a dog with a bone over this and I've managed to convert a couple of fellow liveries and I'm sure it's because people don't believe something natural and cheap can work so well but ROSEHIPS!!!! Found out about it from my brother who suffers from osteoarthrisis (sp) and he found it literally a life saver!! I buy mine from Feedmark and feed the recommended amount, my cob is only 10 but I noticed he was getting clicky joints..so started him on this and the clicks stopped and he seemed bouncier!! 4 weeks ago I ran out and didn't have the money to buy anymore..thought oh well I'm only using it as a preventative so a few weeks not on it won't matter...well click click click and one unhappy horse after 1 week of not having it and he's back on it!!

Took around a month for it to kick in but once it's working it's fab!! I've just ordered some tablets for myself because my hands are starting to hurt so fingers crossed (excuse the pun) it works as well for me.

It's a natural product and at £20 (ish) for 2 months supply worth a try..your horse won't have any side effects from taking it but might have positive effects so why not give it a go before spending out on expensive products?

Don't use the dried whole rosehips though, they didn't work at all for my boy.

I use Nupafeed Flex GLM for mine. Very noticeable difference in my 16yr old mare who has 2 spavins. So much more supple. Also feed it to my yearling and other mare as a preventative. As it uses green lipped mussels, it's also supposed to settle nervous tums too. x

JSR - Can you tell me please where you get the rosehips from and what form you buy it in. Would be interested to hear for myself and the horse:D I suffer quite badly with osteoarthritis and would be grateful for anything that might work.

I buy this for the horse, tried other suppliers but always come back to these as the best quality.

There are some really interesting articles regarding it's uses for humans if you just google they'll come up, as I said my brother started using it as I'm sure you appreciate you'll try anything with osteoartritis and he was having no luck with all the pills and potions from his doctor so thought this was worth a go!! He's still using his prescribed medicines but said the rosehips have most definatley made an impact on his movement and pain. I believe he's using http://www.lewtress.co.uk/subprod/rose-hip-supplement-0001160.aspx .
