hi my mare jumped out the field today and got in with the mare n foal he is 9 months old and not shown any coltish behaviour yet untill today i went out to get her saw she wasn't where i put her!! and she must have only been in with them about 1 1/2 hours and he was all over trying to mount her etc but only when i tried to bring her in they were all grazing fine she didn't really respond to him but how likely is it he would actually been able to do anything???

Generally colts will reach sexual maturity around 12 - 18 months, but there are exceptions to this. But I am sure at 9 months you (or your mare anyway!!) should be ok!

A colt can actually impregnate a mare at 6 months old, although not necessarily. Is your mare actually in season? I doubt she will have caught but be aware...
