half chaps & gaiters?

Half chaps generally are zipped down the side, Gaiters are made to look like long boots when combined with short boots, and zip up the back.

Half chaps zip at the side and are often made of suede or elasicated / gathered in some way, gaiters are usually made of leather and zip at the back, they are considered to be 'smarter' than half-chaps

gaiters are leather

Half chaps can also be leather. Gaiters look more like long boots compared to chaps, and are acceptable for affiliating, whilst half chaps aren't.

I don't think there is a clear cut defintion really as I've got short boots and the matching gaitors (sold as gaitors) but the zip is down the side

And from a distance they look like long boots Clickie here

Gaitors tend to be smarter
