All I could hear whilst stroking the big grey mare which was to become my best horse ever was my mum going "you cant buy that - its the ugliest looking cart horse I have ever seen and its GREY!"
That cart horse took to me Foxhunter and has been THE best horse EVER!!!
When I first saw Motor over 19 years ago, I thought he had a horrid tail and his old owner commented how she loved his 'bottom' ..... I now love every itty bit of him, and his tail and bottom are yummy
When I first saw my TB over 10 years ago, in the middle of a field at the Racing Trainer's Yard, my first thoughts were what skinny legs he had and hated his 4 white socks/stockings ..... he still has skinny little legs, but tbo his conformation is brilliant
When I first saw Oscar; "Whaaat?" Went to see 16h 4yo bay gelding by Clover Hill (apparently sold the previous day) bought a 15.2h 3yo chestnut skinny gelding by Ballinvella (now 16.1 and NOT skinny)
Miss Dynamite; "Hmm, I like her"- wasn't for sale initially then was given her for £20 (too expensive as it turns out).
Madison; "Fook, that's fugly but it's coming home with me for several good meals.....If I can catch it"
Eric; "Well I'm here with cash and a trailer and it's the last horse in the ring and the auctioneer is trying to sell it to me" I was looking for a 4-6yo 15.2h unraced/unbroken bought a 16.3 ex pointer/chaser 12yo. He made a face at me when I went to see him in the stable afterwards- I hadn't even looked at him before as didn't tick ANY of my boxes. Found he had weird googly eyes too.... Best horse ever actually.
