Thanks everyone for your kind comments - It's just one of those things isn't it - very sad and awful to come to terms with - but nothing we can do about it!

loss of earnings .. huge probably 1500 min, plus all the extra hay and feed for 24 most liveries!!! and extra wages to help get all the hay and feed out and the never ending water runs as yard is frozen so carting water from house to stables and fields! why do they drink so much when it is very cold? .............BUT my sleep deficit has reduced and my waist line expanded!!

The weather hasn't cost me anything compared to what it cost H's mum. really sorry.

But....
5 extra bales of straw = £7.50
Extra hay £20
A big bruise on my bum from falling hard! ouch!

Savings
Missed lessons = £60

Plus - the snow has cleaned up Star's feather and feet beautifully

Financially, I'm better off, but Star is going stir crazy.

Didn't read all replies before, I am so sorry to hear that H's mum *big hugs*

On livery so cost same.

Lessons - saved £90 and probably £20 in fuel as I have only been able to get there a couple of times. Also turning into a blob without being able to ride so gaining all round!

My sanity!!

Other than that I have saved money, George is on part livery, so I saved diesel on the days I couldn't get to the yard, and I had to cancel 2 lessons at £25 each. I did though buy our YM a big box of chocs to say thanks for looking after my boy.

£60 in extra hay and my hunt sub (paid monthly) was £178 for no hunting. Its all very well them adding extra days but as i work i cannot take advantage of them

So sorry about your horse H's mum x

Its cost me quite a bit more feeding hay, and in bedding as have been bringing in over night whilst the snow's been down - fortunately already had a stock of bedding but that ran out so had to get more. Fuel bill increased dramatically....pootling along in 2nd and 3rd gear really seems to affect my cars petrol consumption....I suppose they do say the higher the gear, the lower the guzzling....

Oh and a vets bill, although technically that was before the snow came, but due to the frozen ground!
