...that you hack out 'for fun'?

As in not for endurance riding etc? Just wondering how many miles everyone clocks up on their general day-to-day hacks out and what % is on the road and off road?? :)

Well I am looking forward to some longer hacks next year on Nell, did not want to over do it with her this year as she is only 4. I have done hacks of approx 8-10miles in the past. I am a happy hacker only so love long rides when time and weather and mood allows, bliss

I average 3-4 miles with Nell at the moment

At the moment, either once around the village (about a mile) or if I feel adventurous 6 or 7.
I plan on doing my 24 mile (round trip) again when I'm 100% that Ned is 100% and fit again! He's so so good once he gets going, it's a shame to waste him on such short hacks.

Usually 2-5 miles mostly roads a big hack up to the downs around 10 half and half

At the moment only 1-2miles :(

Why only 1-2 at the moment and the :( ??

Chan - Bloomin'ek, and there was me thinking a great 14 mile round route (mainly off road) that I've just discovered might be a bit too adventurous!! :P

Normally either a quick 2-5 miles, average one around 10-12 miles, and sometimes a long one which is 15-16 miles.

Becky dearest, how are you and Ben?? At the moment I would be happy with 500 yards. DD on box rest after small op.

I have never been very good on miles but our average time out when in full hacking mode would be about 1.5 hours, sometimes 2. Unfortunately around where you are there is so much road work. However at my new yard we have miles of off road just waiting for me to explore!

Hello! :)

Me and Mr Ben are very well, not enjoying the mud too much though! As you can see I have been masterminding things for me and Ben to do next year/year after! Yes quite a lot of roads but may have found some nice off road hacking not too far, will have to go and explore once the mud disappears.

Oh poor DD, I hope all is ok and he is on a quick road to recovery? Sounds lovely where you are now, but I still catch Ben looking into the distance and I think he's wondering where DD is bless him.

There will be no stopping you once yet get started.

DD had an unexplained lameness, box rest did not improve. He had small exploratory op on front leg fetlock, they found a small lump of scar tissue on his annular ligament which they successfully removed nearly 2 weeks ago. Staples come out Thursday, couple more weeks box rest before re-scan, then hopefully we will get the OK to get back to work. He is coping well with being in, his usually chilled self, but I am getting very bored!

In the summer the horses can hack for 20 miles in a day, and a lot of it is fast paced ! (well, when its not to hot). In the winter I don't hack too far as I get too cold and for some reason my horse turns in to a pain in the backside, probably lost a bit of fat and the crisp air wakes him up too much :p
