What's the mileage on your horsebox?

As title really!

I am looking at buying a little 3.5T van conversion, just to run around to local shows. A nice one has cropped up, but I'm not sure whether the mileage is too high. I'd only be doing 20-30 miles or so a month though, so not sure how much this would matter (I'd be going out fairly regularly but mostly to very close events - I currently hack to them, but it's a couple of hours each way and is getting a bit much for my poor pony).

Those of you that go out in your boxes, please could you let me know what mileage your box is on? Especially people with van conversions.

Thank you :)

52 reg previous ocado delivery vehicle 3.5t. 225k miles and still not run in - mercedes 311 engine - will go to 500 k easy

Thanks for the quick replies - maybe I don't need to worry so much. Kezimac yours is very similar to the mileage on the one I am looking at (van rather than box, but still).

Racingdemon, that is really low!

Mutley - 1 million miles?! Where do you go in it?? :p

as others have said milage is not the big deal that a lot of people seem to think it is? I would be far more wary of something with very few miles on the clock for its age.

a higher milage vehicle is no different to any other provided it has been looked after/serviced regularly!

Echo Georgie girl, for a commercial vehicle, the higher it is is almost better (to a point) mine is so unbelievably low, but I've a full service history (was an ex demo) & bought it off the truck manufacturer, but in general low mileage may equal problems (frantically touches wood)

Eta..... If it has had a previous non horse box job

On almost any sort if vehicle it is often the case that a low mileage is to be avoided. Lots if cold starts and short journeys kill an engine. Don't fear high miles on a commercial vehicle - they are built for it and often flogging up and down the motorway (at 56 mpg so not exactly hammered) is the best sort to buy.

7.5 t reg (97 i think?) has done 70,000 - but then it was a horsebox from new, not hammered around as a commercial lorry then converted!

i dont look at mileage, the mercedes sprinter i have does have 225k miles - it was previously an ocado delivery vehicle and serviced every 3 months! - it was maintained very well. Mechanically it is great, body wise - it was recently converted and using top quality materials and no rust. So for me as I know its history I dont have a problem with high mileage - rather high than a van thats always been a horsebox and has no miles on it - therefore standing around doing not alot!

Mine has done just over 200,000 now - but engine blew at 182,000 = new engine @ £2800 plus £1000 for fitting!!!!
Check your turbo (no white smoke coming from it) - mine blew taking out the engine :(

My 3.5 tonne had 77000 miles on when it was converted and has now has 88000 miles.

My car dealer mate said mileage for most cars and vans is no problem now. They are built to go forever.

Mine (W Reg Iveco 7.5ton) has got 475,000 km on the clock
I had a low mileage one before that, with 100,000km and had no end of trouble with it, including needing a new engine and pretty much everything else to go with it.
