I have advertised my friends horse on the net as they don't have a very good internet connection and are unable to always check emails etc...

He is a 14hh JA pony who has had an amazing career and was placed at Hickstead jumping 1.30...

The lastest 'stupid' question I have had was today... "Would you consider him free to a very good home"

I mean come on, really!!

Cheap as chips pony a friend was selling. Couple of hundred pounds. Broken in with showing experience, full up 14.2hh. Was literally up for about £400. Bargain!!

'does it come with tack?'

Erm...no!!!

For one I had up for loan that was very very clear that he was for loan only and would never be for sale.

First call I got 'would u sell him to a pony club home?'

Argh!!!

Quite a few years ago my friend was selling her 15.3 cob x and a man came to see her cob to try out, she re-asked if he could ride as her horse was advertised for experienced rider only as could be strong sometimes and the guy had put on wellies - he said yes and seemed most offended so she apologised.

She got on her other horse as they were going for a hack together and as she was going out the gate, the guy said just remind me, how do you stop a horse ?!

She asked him to get straight off .. :):)

Thats class... there really are some incredibly thick people out there! I'm sure some people think owning a horse is like owning a goldfish!!

It's frightening isn't it. I had another question from a lady about the pony asking would he be suitable for her 7 year old daughter to learn to jump on... I said "Of course, if you want your daughter to land on the moon" lol

A lovely family but quite oddly asked if my 16.2 would fit in their pony trailer cause they would only buy a horse that fitted in the trailer.

Which isn't stupid but I just thought wow :)

Not from the girl trying the pony, but from her father.

'Not seen one like this before, is it blonde'? (dun pony)

Selling a 17hh + HW hunter for work (looking like a pea in the ocean!) man asked if the horse was a man's horse or a ladies horse. When I said both, he replied ''but you are a young lady, how can I hunt on a horse that has been ridden by a lady?' I wasn't quite sure what to say back!!

BoolavogueDC, that's funny! ;)

When I was selling my 17.1 hh dressage gelding, 4 years old (just), they asked "has he started changes?"
My answer..... HE'S 4!!!!

Someone else tried another young horse I had for sale, and she couldn't get him to walk, trot or canter, he stopped, started, and stopped and started, and refused, had his back dipped and head up high in the air, constantly being yanked in the gob (yet she talked on the phone as though she's a Grand Prix dressage rider when she made the appointment)...I am very surprised he didn't deposit her on the ground...
Anyway, when she was about to dismount she asked "is it ok if I kick him in the backside when I'm getting off?"

I thought, there's two options here, I could let her do it, and there will be some fast-paced entertainment immediately. Or I can hold him tightly by the reins while she hauls herself off, dropping her chunky leg on his backside, dragging it heavily over his back...I held the reins very tightly - he wanted to bolt, he was not a happy camper (as one would expect), if I hadn't held on to him, she would have broken the speed record in the school, I'm sure (until she toppled off).

Someone rang my friend, advertising her 15hh QH youngster as very green, needs a confident experienced rider to bring him on, and asked would 'it' be suitable as a surprise birthday present for a 7 yr old who had just started riding lessons!

I sympathise. I am horse shopping and a lot are advertised on FB.
I cringe for the owners when they have obviously advertised a comp horse for dale only and get:
Would you consider a loan and even can I loan for 3 months.
The £500 unbroken 2 yo does it come with tack :-o

About a 2yo PRE colt "Would he be suitable for my 8yo to ride" :( don't have to tell you what my reply was.

when i recently thought i would have to sell my 2 i had a few stupid questions:

1. My rising 2 gelding, does he come with tack and would he be suitable for a novice!!! hummmm i was shocked! i replied with no to both questions and the reply i got back was, "can i ask why?"
2. my 7 year old mare,, i would love to take her, ill send someone to collect her over the weekend and ill pay you in instalments! again no words!! :-0

sorry just to add... my circumstances then changed which meant i no longer had to sell them.... thank got

Nothing surprises me anymore.

I was helping a friend show her horse to viewers. One viewer asked why the mare didn't have a 'winky' and said that they didn't want a girl horse. My conclusion was that someone who didn't know what a mare was, was certainly not ready to own a horse. Luckily the owner answered the question while I was momentarily quiet with shock. She was alot more tactful than I would have been. ;)

Not for sale but I found it funny any way 'can some one come help me get my pony ready for a show and help teach it to behave for in the ring sorry cant pay' right so you expect some one to come trim and pamper your horse and then teach it some manners so you can show it for free?

Its reassuring to see that I am not alone!! I have specified in my ad for my boy strictly no loans, my best and most recent inquiry was, "my husband has always wanted a horse like yours, we live on a farm with 11 horses. Could we have your boy now and pay you in June?"

Errr no.

Please tell me there are some serious buyers out there!!!!

Selling a three and a half year old NF gelding who had been backed for two months and was going really nicely in walk and trot . . . ..
first potential buyer : "why haven't you cantered him and how's his jumping?" I pointed out he was only 3 and had only been backed a couple of months. She then wanted him on a month's trial so I replied with ". . . . so you can jump him and send him back when he's crippled?"
second potential buyer was even better considering she was a vet : "he's not big enough, I really wanted something of 14hh" The pony at the time was 14.1hh on his bum and 13.3hh on his withers. Even her friend pointed out that he was only three and a half and had a lot more growing to do and would make 14.1hh even if his bum caught up with his withers and he didn't grow any more! Very, very worrying comment from a vet (although she is from 'my' vet's, I won't have her anywhere near mine!!)

Viewing a TBx YEARLING, one numpty said "I'd love to clip him!" and " Do you feed him "hot oats"?". She also thought he'd be rideable.

WTF are "hot oats"?!

Was selling a yearling last year to make 16+ when mature, I was bombarded with emails and txt asking for loan of yearling, why would I loan a 16 month old on loan? What did they think they could do with it! I didnt ask just gave blunt NO'S!!
Makes it really worrying especially when you want the best for your youngsters in their future ridden career.

Lol at these. Best i've seen was a 17.2 sports horse doing well at 2* 'ringing for our daughter, been riding all her life & wants to get competitive, very sturdy & tall girl, would like something mr could hunt too etc. Closer questionsrevealed daughter was 6!

I was asked once if the super sharp, young trakehner mare I was selling would be suitable to introduce the prospective buyer's wife to hunting...
ermmm, it depends how much you hate your wife :D (I did NOT say that! just thought it)

these are so funny :D
Friend had been competing friends horse and selling from our yard he was 17 2 school master huge jump suitable for man or tall woman. We had heavy built young woman who really liked him but was worried about size of his knees he is heavy built irish sports horse quite honestly would have collapsed if he had my tbs knees .Found it hilarious as she really liked horse and all she could find wrong with him was big knees. She kept asking why his knees were so big they were in proportion with his legs lol
