Up until recently, whenever me and Toto tried flying changes, we used to change the front legs but not the back, and go disunited.
However randomly I decided to try flying changes, and we got a few real changes

We did some changes today, the first few times we went disunited, and then it clicked, and we did 2 or 3 real changes

I have been asking for the change over a pole on the ground up until now, what's the next step? Do I just do exactly the same, without a pole on the floor?
Also, for some reason, flying changes make Toto go hyper, he turns really speedy, does any one else find that their horse does this, and how do you calm them down a bit?

Thanks

I never do them over poles as think that aids to the excitment of them!!!

I would start by doing a half 10m circle back to the track and then ask for the change near the track.

I like to establish one rein first, as apparently its easier for the horse that way. And if the horse gets to excited or anticipates I wont ask for the change and pretend I wanted counter canter!

When you can do them on the track each way, then move them away from the track.

When I was teaching my horse 2 time changes the biggest thing to help was not riding the change, so he almost got sharper of my leg when I did ask.

Does that help?

Vickijay - thanks for the reply

Haha I have no clue why switching legs over a pole on the ground is sooooo exciting, he doesn't get like that for jumping or anything else?

That's the exercise I was doing today, but with a pole to help him switch, I will try it another day without a pole

Thanks again
