I was having this discussion with a friend this afternoon - though I don't think any of our non horsey products were particularly odd (ie. boot polish on hooves for shows / vanish on white tails)

What's your oddest non horsey product that gets used on your horse?

Mr Sheen but thats not really that odd

i think there was a post on here recently about butt cream for horses with sore/sensitive mouths to stop them splitting!!! I did chuckle when i read it, also someone said they had to buy some from supermarket for a whole yard of competition horses which was about 20 tubes or so,

Fake tan!!! I had a chestnut working hunter pony that had a white scar on its leg - used fake tan on it before shows and it dyed the hair the same ginger colour as the rest of him

Actually, we use the cheap Tesco value one which works just as well!
Also the hair gel with a little bit of sparkle in it for plaiting and quarter marks.

The non slip mats you get for cars and caravans are good for holding saddles in place.

Nit combs are good for doing quarter marks.

I bought some value nappies to poultice my horses foot. I felt so pikey at the till as all the mothers were glaring at me as I hadn't bought pampers

Talc on legs, nappy rash cream on delicate skin, coconut shampoo and conditioner on weak mane and tail!! Baby oil on rug rubbed shoulders, swarfega on really dirty white tails. Hair scrunchies to hold ribbons on tails for BSJA stallions, razors for trimming whiskers. and loads KY for breeding [cheapest place is gay websites - but I always use Mum's computer to order it!!!] Nappies on foot absess'.
God bless wilko's

In the past I've used Soul Glow (hair gloss for afro hair) for black manes and tails.
I bath horses using washing detergent (the stuff for woollens is fab).
Dishwasher powder for bringing a sparkle to the lorinery. (sometimes use the dishwasher too)

Tresemme deep clean shampoo for bathing before a show...not that odd until you consider the fact that it is £4 a bottle, and the shampoo I use on my own hair is £1 a bottle. Pampered pony I think.

rachelstar - yes it works works wonders!!! got the idea for it when a friend of mine went for a spraytan. She has very blonde (almost white) hair and when she came back the tan had dyed the front of her hair ginger - didn't come off for days!

Well my Scottish vet (well known if you live near Stirling) swore by Sudacreme for sores, abrasions I always have it. I also use TCP and Savlon creme. My equine first aid box is much better stocked than mine.

My French vet recommend a lavender antiseptic spray which is great for homo-sapiens it doesn't sting.

Garden marker pen for hiding white boot rub mark on a black leg for showing, Doesn't come off on judges hands.
Jeyes bin fresh on stable floors in the winter when you can't wash them out.
Vanish spray stain remover on the bottom of white tails.
Tights on plaits to keep hay seeds off.
VO5 firm hold spray for plaits - has a pump spray so you can hang it off you pocket while plaiting!

Blue rinse to get that grey horse uber-clean looking.

Big hairdressers hairclips for sectioning his mane when plaiting.

My cat's ZoomGroom for moulting season - it really gets the loose hair off them.

I used to have a horse that was quite close behind and to stop him from clipping himself with his shoes in a dressage test, I'd paint a bit of liquid paraffin on the inside of his legs and over the sharp edges of the shoe itself. Since you're not allowed brushing boots, it did the job well.

someone recommended Glo White (for washing net curtains) for getting tails really white, but it turned my mare's tail orange! I now use original green fairy liquid which is much better. I am also a big sudocreme fan!

One of my old hairbrushes for doing her mane and tail, Sudocream for rug rub is fantastic, Germolene on little scrapes that don't need anti germing, Tesco tea trea shampoo and coniditioner for baths
