Whats the oddest non-horsey product you use on your horse?

I use old terry towel nappies (used to use them for the baby as feeding clothes not nappies lol) for handy cloths at the yard. Useful for bathing wounds and for things like tack cleaning too.

Baby stuff is generally very useful!!

I've also used sanitary towels (the ones with wings) to dress a leg wound. My old horse is such a wimp it's hard to get anything on him, so I stuck the towel on the end of the leg bandage so it was so much easier to get the dressing in place and get it to stay there while he was pratting around. Worked a treat.

Avon Skin So Soft spray as a fly repellant for a sweet-itch horse in the summer. It's a dry spray so doesn't leave the coat greasy and sticky. It's renowned for keeping midges away from people too.

Newborn nappies (cheapest) for poulticing, car innertube to keep the poultice clean..just use bailer twine to tie round fetlock, can't over tighten and no dirt gets in and ponio could roam around field instead of being boxed. Shower scrunchie to get off dried mud, tesco hair gel to get mane to stay in place. Mate uses water proof mascara to cover white marks on her show pony. Griptop shelf liner to stop saddle slipping...£1.50 from Wilkinsons ....bargain ...sudacrem, detol, that's all I can think of...but like the fake tan, marker pen and furniture polish ideas

Honey to draw out and clean abcess holes (you need to use the squeezy stuff - much easier), Loreal silver shampoo for white mane and tails (I have 2 lots now to get white), baby wipes, gaffer tape for quick mending of rugs, E45 cream for flaky skin, liquid parafin (diluted) as fly repellent. Loving the fale tan idea!

My friend told me today that she used to use pile cream on the horses mouths when she worked as an event groom. Nice.

I use eye drops on mine if the flies get to them. Baby wipes are great for cleaning faces. Also bought one of those gel pads you put in the freezer for my mare when she had her splint and bandaged it round her leg. Mine also have their tails shampoed and conditioned with VO5. I'm sure I use stranger things but they are normal to me!

Tresemme deep clean shampoo for bathing before a show...not that odd until you consider the fact that it is £4 a bottle, and the shampoo I use on my own hair is £1 a bottle. Pampered pony I think.

My sister always insisted on bathing Squizz in Pantene...

I use summer weight duvets as winter blankets. A double duvet fits really well with nice wrap around neck. Just needs well fitting rug on top to hold it securely.

Duvets £7-10, much cheaper than rugs, do the job well, fit in washing machines with no buckles etc and can be reused as dog beds when they finally fall apart.
