Whats the oddest thing you have found in your stable??

A magpie, alive and hopping around. I hate magpies, so threw the dog in with it, big wimp was scared of it, so put the cat in... did nothing, so let it out and the chickens attacked it and pecked it to death, eurgh!!
I'm pretty sure there was something seriously wrong with it in the first place though, but they're horrid so let the demon chucks do their worst!!

A fox cub!

In Septre's stable at our old yard. There was a fox hole in the bank behind her stable and the cub climbed in through the window. Put some rigger gloves on, used an old towel and popped him back out again. Then got some mesh for the window!

Once I walked down the yard whacking the feeds into the mangers, and on the way back found the 1st horse in line standing on his tippy toes peering into his manger. When I had a look, I had flung his feed on top of a teeny tiny mouse, who was extremely cross having dug his way back out, and was standing on his hind legs on top of the feed going "eep".

Being a total wimp when it comes to mice (give me a boa constrictor any day) I gave the horse another feed in a bucket, and got my OH to rescue the mouse when he came back. It was quite fat by then.

I was shaking out a bale of straw a couple of months ago in my stable and found a pair of paint splattered levis! I wonder what happened to their owner?!

ooo was it red paint? Might not have been paint afterall if the owner got sucked into a baling machine.

I was all set to be in the winner with my squashed duck in a bale of straw but thats pretty tame compared to lots of these.

We have house martins in our stables every year - last year they had two lots of babies - they are so cute when they first venture out of the nest on to the stable walls - not so cute when they crap all over the horses backs and on their rugs!!

Not actually in my stable but next to it - a mummified cat!
When clearing up an old round straw bale which had been there for years, my friend picked up what he thought was a plastic bottle. He was horrified when what he had picked up was a dead cat, it was dried out and complete and must have been preserved in the straw. It's one of the most weird things I have ever seen.

half a dead mouse, cut neatly in a half moon shape. The other half was squashed in under the horse's shoe. Not very nice.

the Man & Man one had me in stictes Zigzag!

car keys - my sharer had lost hers and we found them in his bed! At my old stables it was quite common to find dead rats and pigeons in your water buckets yuck. People also seem to like throwing rubbish into my stable, so regularly find crisp packets, 7ups and paper plates - glad Im leaving on thursday!

My watch! - it turned up in the bed 3 weeks after my horse had bitten it off my wrist and I was convinced she'd swallowed it. I'd searched the bed thoroughly at the time and there was no sign of it so I had phoned the vet in a panic. He just burst out laughing and said if she had swallowed it (which was unlikely) it would pass through. There was no poo on it when I found it so I think my little darling must have spat it into a corner and buried it. Had me worried though!

We used to get straw that had pieces of clay pigeon in it, we managed to put together a whole one from about 5 different bales of straw.

Once I found a nest of baby rats in that corner of a stable, I scooped them up took then to the muck heap and hit them with a shovel, while crying and saying sorry. They were pink and about the size of adult mice. We had a big rat probem at that yard!

A mole got in to our earth floored stables and couldn't get out. The mare that lived in there was fascinated. We also once found a dead hedgehog in a bale of hay (very yeucky)

Whilst tying up a haynet in my friends stable I found the skin and vital organs of a baby bunny. The skin to one side and the vitals looked to havebeen licked clean.

It was no mystery as I had seen the farm cat with a squealing baby bunny earlier in the day...little rotter.

A golf ball

We do live near a course - well, about a mile and a half away. AND the stables are the wrong way round, so I have visions of some super-human Tiger Woods type having whacked it a couple of miles, bounced it off our garage and boing into my girls stable. Hmmm, she does have a lump on her nose right now, so maybe not so far fetched

I found the end of someones thumb!

It had arrived in a bale of Hemcore, I phoned them up and yes, production manager had chopped thumb off in machine a few weeks earlier. They sent a girl with a van full of hemcore for me and took the thumb back to it's owner!

OK, that wins the day for me, hands down!

A snake! Every one else ran away screaming when I found it but I just picked it up and found it a new home by the river! It was just a little grass snake not exactly an anaconda!
