What's the oldest horse or pony that you have known, preferably personally rather than hearsay/legend/rumour/media??

Just interested really, especially as my ol' girl is pushing 27 this year and is just about to embark on teaching a tot to ride!

A friends pony I used to keep mine with was 42 the winter he died

he was still jumping the odd cross pole and everything! Apparently he was the oldest Exmoor pony (Dont know if that's ever, or alive at the time).

My friends pony was still competing and winning in local showjumping aged 35!! There is apparently a horse at one of the riding schools who is pushing 50

not sure if I believe that tho!

There is a horse at the RS I go to who is 38. One at the yard I ride at who is in his 30s (I believe he was retired last year) and the ponio I ride is in her late 20s

My first pony, Lable, was 37 when he was put down! And Pippa, my second, was 34. Both, especially Lable, were very active at the time; they went downhill in a matter of days, and it wasnt fair to try and prolong their life any more!

my pony is rising 20

not very old at all. But I know it was meant to be personal horses but the oldest horse ever (to the best of my knowlage) was 63 and called old billy, wonder if he was named that when he was born

My daughter used to ride my mates pony, Timmy who was 27...(But sadly he has just had to put down due too impaction colic

)

He was a part time riding school pony and most of the people my daughter knows who have ridden him learnt most of their stuff on him!!! So it should be alright if the 'tot' learns on her!

My old pony is 35 She was given to me when she as 16. He said youll get a few years out of her. Now my 2 year old granddaughter rides her. She has only ever had two homes and lived in just 2 places all her life.

my old pony an ISH pony was 44 when he was put down as he had no teeth left to chew with, was a cheeky bugger though. And one of our liveries 15.2 polo pony who has travelled all over europe with them is 35 this year and is still going strong enjoying his retirement picking on his field friends.

One of mine was supposed to be 14 according to his passport, but my vet now thinks he is more like 25!!!
He was retired last summer, and sadly will have to be pts very soon as his cancer is progressing very rapidly now.

The Dartmoor I had as a child lived to 34, He was such an evil little black git who would savage small children at every opportunity...we always reckoned he lived to a great age out of spite..the longer he lived the more children he could send to A and E.

My old pony was approx. 42 when he died - don't know his true age as he'd been around sooo long but people remembered him being "old" 20 years before we had him!

Here he is aged approx. 34 - his name was Horace

My Friend had her 15.1 cob until he was 45, never used to be sure if I believed he was that old,

My conni x tb is now 32, I was warned not to have her 18 years ago as she was old! She still looks fantastic so could well believe that she could get to that age, & there is nothing wrong with her,

I also had a Section A pony who died in the field aged 35 you would have thought she was 11 no kidding & was still ridden, she only ever had one set of front shoes on in her whole life.

Bonnie Boy, my Exmoor lived to 39 and my Topsy my Dartmoor lived to 37.

Topsy was at Ada Cole at the end due to my mum passing away from cancer, and whilst not wishing at all to say anything bad against Ada Cole, Topsy probably could have gone on a few years with lots of tlc which she would have had if I could have kept her at home. However, financially there were more younger and worthy causes than a very old pony who was getting colds and stiff with age and had had a very long and good life.

My TB at 29 was still hunting, competing and acted like a youngster and only went due to being kicked in the field and her leg being broken. She was very fit and healthy and ridden at least 5 times a week. Her only age concession was a bute every other day to prevent stiffness and make sure she was comfortable.

A pony at the yard Im on was pts last year aged 34. I used to ride a lovely big TBx at a riding school who was 29, he taught so many people to ride, he was an old git but everyone loved him

My old mare is 35 & still needs a pelham hacking! My grandfather bought her as a 3 yo from the farm next door when I was 5 so I'd have something bigger to ride when I grew out of my Welsh Mountain pony.

Still has all her teeth & still runs off when her feet touch grass or stubble...

My Older Mare, Mistletoe has a passport stating 34, although we know that it is wrong, she is more like 40, we also have her son who is 22.

Mistletoe has come out of retirement to enjoy having tiny people rider her, she clicks and creaks alot, but seems much happier working rather than not. She gets quite excited to see her small charges arrive.

Every day with her is a bonus, we've almost lost her twice before and we put it down to having a little exercise, being happy - having her son around and a bit of help from homeopathy.

My friends Exmoor was approx 32 when he died in his sleep in the field. Her small son had been riding him at a show only the week before where he won the veteran and did some gymkhana events too.

We have a 31yr old ex advanced eventer at work. He is just a field nanny now but can still canter about with the foals.

44 her name was dimples and she was a driving pony in her younger days, she was then used in the RS then went into retirement unfortunetly she had to be PTS Late last year. Our yard currently has two 36 year olds!
