What's the point in this?

Having just seen a litter of pups for sale registered with this place:

What is the point in it? They have a code of ethics but the disclaimer at the bottom says it all really '
We hope and expect all breeders to abide by this general code of conduct and behave responsibly - (although we cannot enforce all conditions mentioned).'
Maybe we could set up our own dog registration club, where we only accept puppies and dogs that are cute with big paws?

Does seem pretty pointless, if our Lancashire Heeler does well in the show ring we will breed from her. The Lancashire Heeler Club does have quite a strict code of ethics and because it is a relative rare breed(on the KC vulnerable list) it is possible to breed within their restrictions.

It is so people can scam others.

It's main use seems to be so people can "register" puppies when they have lost their dog's papers or if their dogs are endorsed "progeny not for registration".

The papers are not worth the paper they are written on but still people fall for it.

Its just so people who want to churn pups out as "registered" can do so without complying with any of the KC standards (which imo aren't nearly strict enough themselves). That Code of Ethics is a joke, no mention of the maximum number of litters, nor leaving a season between matings, and the minimum and maximum ages for breeding are far too young and old respectively.

It's basically an official-sounding registry so that people can cop out of doing things properly to my mind and add a few £££ to puppies.
I am no cheerleader for the Kennel Club but that is the official registration body for dogs in the UK and it is not hard to abide by their rules.
