what is the point?
ino if ur famous and after a huge show you are getting interviwed or what ever but there is no point cos when you ride dont you sweat? lol some people prob have different opinions but this is mine :P i dont wear make up riding. i only wear it going out and stuff :L but seriously why do they wear make up riding?

If you go straight to the yard after going out with friends? Straight after work, or if you have a crush on one of the grooms? :p There is sweat resistant and water-proof makeup etc. I only ever wear a weeny bit of makeup during the day really, and occasionally ride with it if I don't have the time to take it off. But on the whole I don't wear makeup as I don't 'need' to.. I look ghastly with OR without it :D xx

I only wear make up to the yard if it's left over from the night before....

However, if I'm doing dressage, I would always make sure I have a little bit of mascara on (I don't want to frighten the judges!!)

Ditto the morning after the night before. I don't usually put make up on tbh but I am partial to a bit of mascara and eye liner when I feel like it, but that's it.

I don't do foundation lol and I only do bronzer, blusher when I'm going out :D

thats exactly what i was trying to say----- thank you.

Personally I don,t see the point in wearing make-up riding, The only one big rider that I,ve seen that wears visible make up is Ellen Whitaker there is proberbly more but no more that I,ve seen. I think they,re trying to "Glam" up riding or maybe impress a boy or something but I dont, see the point either in wearing make-up it,s just going to come off or you would have to keep re-applying it and say you wiped your face then touched your nice white saddlecloth you,d get foundation all over it.
I saw someone event at a competiton who was wearing foundation, lip stick, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara the lot and she was sweating so it was rolling down her face. I don,t have a problem with people wearing make up riding, I just don,t see the point in it.

1) So as you don't frighten the horses! (LOL)
2) To protect your skin

- As an ex beauty therapist i have always worn thick foundation and SPF 30 moisturiser in bad weather or the sun, - its still there if you re on the back of a horse so why would you not wear make - up?
I am 55 next birthday and many say I do not look even in my mid 40s.

I'd imagine most people wear the same 'face' of makeup that they'd wear to work etc. For me it's foundation, concealer and mascara. I'd never wear going out makeup ie. liquid eyeliner etc just for going to the yard but I know in some showing classes the wearing of certain makeup is encouraged.

I don't mind people wearing it in competitions but at the yard .... no.

I team manage a riding team and I stand at the door in the morning handing out makeup remover and wipes :p

 WHY! Why does it matter if someone wan'ts to wear make up! Don't think they would even make you take it off at boot camp, let alone to ride!

I think its just a bit odd... but they I don't wear any day to day either, better things to do with my time :) to protect skin I wear suncream :). most of those I do know who wear make up riding look highly amusing ;) :D

have def never considered wearing it for drsg in case of frightening judges, they are mostly suppose to be looking at the horse :p

My yard is at home, sometimes I look soooo rough!
I have make up on now and I am just about to ride, can't be arsed to take it off.
Should start wearing out competingthough, looking at some picture I take pale to a whole new level, in fact I look light grey, I look really awful!

Perhaps some people are talking about makeup in this context as being 'outlandish' ie lipstick, bright eyeshadows? I know most people at my yard wear makeup, of the natural variety and look fine. Can't say I've ever seen anybody return from a lesson or a hack with anything out of place. Can't see what the problem is - most of the time if someone is decent at putting makeup on you generally won't realise they're even wearing it.

That if people do not want to go out without make up on then why should riding be any different to other things such as nipping to the shops.
If people want to wear make up, fine. If they don't, fine.

i said i always used to wear a bit of make-up, whether out riding or just out- dont now as i dont venture out, plain and simples!!

this post has just reminded me of being at an event a few years ago and the lady before me was just having her helpers put the final touches on her before she went into the dressage, which involved passing her the lippy! me and my mum thought this was hilarious, the last thing i am thinking of before a stressage test is my makeup!

Oh, just remembered - there was a girl who would ride at an old RS I would go to. She had short elfin cut hair which looked good on here cos she was pretty and skinny, but it was dyed multicoloured, but on top of that, purely to come riding because the rest of the day she had to do homework so she could go out on a Sunday, she would wear neon eyeliner, full face of foundation, bronzer, blush, lipliner, and very often bright day-glow eyeshadow, along with mandatory layered mascara. Then also a band t-shirt and bring pink johds - I think this was partly to get up our strict YO's nose :D xx

I dont really see why you are all getting het up about it. Who gives a stuff what other people do? Some of our liveries on our yard wear make up, some dont. I didnt wear any today as i had been at home all day. However, I come to the yard straight from the office most days, where I have been wearing a suit, tidy hair and MAKE UP, and probably quite a lot of it as at my age I need all the help I can get. i am a happy hacker, so I probably give the passing motorists a bit of a shock. In my dressage heyday a few years ago I used to wear a bit and Mini TX wears a bit to go eventing. I say its each to their own and who cares?

I only wear make-up to the yard if I've already got it on, e.g. after work or the night before. But for a show I put foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner and bronzer on, which is my normal makeup, . I compete in Liverpool where everyone is really really done up all the time!! I was at a show today and I don't think I saw a single girl/woman between the ages of 14-30 without some make-up on!! So I don't want to be the odd one out! Also I got some pictures taken and I would never buy a picture of me without makeup on! yuck!!

I wear make up as infrequently as possible - I don't really see the point! My friends and colleagues actually ask me if they have forgotten about parents' evening etc if I go into school with make up on!! So if I don't go into work with make up on, I'm very unlikely to go riding with it on!

Well I always wear a bit of mascara, but by the time I get home it's usually gone anyway. I work on a yard and invariably I get drenched and it washes off, or else it gets sweated off. I never arrive home looking particularly alluring! I don't care :D

I don't leave the house without wearing makeup! I wear it to the gym and to ride and my Revlon Colourstay stays put even after a long run.
To be honest, if people get offended by others wearing makeup, they must lead a pretty boring life.
Live and let live, I say.
