whats the point of wearing makeup riding?

As some one else said, a lot of the showing ladies wear alot of make up. Especially the ladies on the heavier cobs, alot of them had used the trowel method!

OMG - may have to rethink my whole look! Any excuse to visit the lovely ladies behind the counters. Guess natural mineral makeup just ain't going to cut it.

I always wear make up so why wouldn't I when I ride? During the week I go straight from work so already have make up on and unless its chucking it down I always put it on before I go riding at the weekend. I don't 'cake' myself in it but I like wearing it. It never ends up all over my face and I never look like a clown either :D

totally agree - i dont slap it on but i owuld tn empty the bins without my usual foundation. bronzer and nude lipstick - i look scarey without!

i guess the same reason some people wear nice underwear or shave their legs even if no-one will see them because it makes them feel better or good. if it makes you feel good then i don't see any problem with it.

i don't bother as i prefer not to wear make up as i don't think wearing it all the time is always good for your skin but if i had a lot of spots or looked completely exhausted i would cover them up just because it would make me feel better even if no-one else cared or saw.

just had another thought it you doing a best turned out class would you wear make up to make yourself look as flawless as possible too?

Well I go for the tramp look myself. Some women (and men :D) really suit make up and it would be very odd to see them with none, whether at the yard or at Tescos. I have been told I scrub up well but I don't care too much what I look like. As long as my clothes are clean and presentable, hair tied back and not everywhere for work, then that's good enough for me. I don't even wear make up for nights out unless its somewhere posh or I have someone I really want to impress (rare). Lck of make up never stopped me pulling handsome blokes when I was younger. I guess some like the tramp look :D

I don't as I CBA :D
Have done before though if just nipping by. I wouldn't make up myself to go and ride my horse though.
Although people are generally more beautiful with make up (me also) I just don't see the need.
For me it's more the fact I CBA though

i was at a show today, up at 5am, plaiting on yard by 5.30am, i must ahve looked awful, blochy and red!! there was a girl in my class who had a little bit of nice, natural make up on and it got me thinking this could be the way forward!!! she looked fresh faced and flawless, i looked like i possibly might have been dead for a while. might try a little make uo next time!!

I never put make up on to ride. If I've worn it to work (I don't always as quite frankly some days an extra 5 minutes in bed is more of a priority) I might still have it on.
In fact, at weekends all I do before going to the yard is brush my teeth and put my hair in a pony tail. The horses don't care what I look like and there's no point showering and washing my hair just go out and get dirty. I nearly always ride early and then come home have a shower and get sorted for the clean part of my day!
I remember some of the girls at pony club camp when I was a kid getting up half an hour early to put their make up on, despite not being able to have a proper wash for a few days:rolleyes:

I ve been up to do the horses without make-up on , with unbrushed hair and not showered and in yesterdays dirty clothes on occasions, and quite frankly it makes me feel utterly depressed and awful. My skin tone is poor without make -up and the blotchiness some have mentioned in this thread gets worse with age. I think most of the people who do not wear make -up contributing to this thread are young, ( under 30) As you get older you generally find more make-up is required just to look normal!

intresting topic i personally dont like wearing make-up atall ill make and effort going out somewere spesh but thats about it, were my mum on the other hand wont leave the house without makeup.

I wear makeup for riding but then I wear it every day no matter what I'm doing.

Why? because it makes me feel better about myself, I'm wasn't blessed with nice complection, ever since I was a child I've had very dark circles under my eyes and I got teased at school for it.

Really can't understand why anyone should be that bothered about someone else wearing makeup ...be in the yard mucking out, hacking, hunting or at a competition, do people really care or notice that much....if so I'll make a special effort next time I do my face :D

I frequently ride after work and dont bother to remove make up before riding but I would never put make up to actually go riding - although if I was going hunting or to a show I might make the effort if I can be bothered/remember. I dont really notice if other people are wearing make up when they ride unless they are plastered in it as though they were going to a nightclub - I dont pay that much attention to things to be honest :D

Happened to watch some flat racing at Chepstow last week. One of the female presenters was riding in an amateur race and she had on bright green eye shadow which matched her colours. I thought she looked like something out of a retro 60s disco but then I'm hardly into fashion;)

Ditto :)

Well, i am one of the people who paint there nails, wears makeup and looks immaculate- Not!

Seriously, i do paint my nails and wear makeup most days- i dont care.. I have to admit though if i am having a lesson (espec a jumping one which is at least twice a week) i will nip home and chuck a wetwipe over my T-Zone as i dont want to cause any spots from a days worth of makeup+ hat+ sweat.. but aside from that i will just crack on no matter what.

-And i dont care if i get dirty or messy.. i have a shower at home and i use it.

I dont wear fake tan as im allergic but i am a sun lover so tan well and will generally wear mascara, eye liner and some tinted moisturiser in the summer or foundation in the winter with some blush.

Sometimes i will wear makeup for shows, depends on the show or how late im running ;)

i have no idea tbh....!
mind you - i don't wear makeup full stop...! i cringe at some of the war paint - sorry make up - in showing though

i get the point why people do and dont wear make up.
i only made this discussion up because i was bored. im not against anyone if they wear make up. Im only saying there is no point. I suppose if ur just back from work or school or something, then yeaah make up riding but other wise there is no point :P

I'm the same, I might wear a bit of masacara on before I leave the house in the morning, but I've seen some people put on a full face just to ride! Seems like a lot of effort to me, prefer to spend the time riding!!

If i'm going to the yard first thing just to muck out i even wear make up!
I get up get dressed put make up on, Foundation, mascara sometimes eyeliner- I have lip gloss welded to my hand (and several more in my bag/pocket/grooming box!)

Its not because i want to show off or look glamorous by any means and people are often surprised if the fact i have it on comes up (with the exception of the mascara i imagine) but on the odd occasion someone see's me with none on they often comment that i look a bit tired or am i feeling well!!

I a big one for less is more and never do the orange or caked on look but due to the above comments i can confirm i need it! lol

Whats the point of wearing it at all? We don't need it afterall.
Some women just like it,some will be comming form work or whatever so still ahve ti on,othrs like me will only put it on for special days.

If the person is happy/feels better for a bit fo lippy they should go for it :)

1)
I am 55 next birthday and many say I do not look even in my mid 40s.

I think I remember you saying in a post that you'd had a face lift, so one would expect you to look good for your age, regardless of what creams and make up you use!

You don't need to wear make up to protect your skin, you could use sun block or day cream, both more or less invisable.

I only wear make up for evenings/days out/special occasions and I think it's sad that people feel they look so bad that they can't leave the house without it.
