Whats the scam here then?

Good idea about contacting the real owner, i've just emailed one that's on Coloured Contact, I'll let you know what there reply is.

I also recognise the ad for the Friesian under allrounders- I can't remember where I saw the original advert though- Adhorse, I think but can't find it now.

Think before calling!!
I notice there's a few encouraging others to call and speak to the seller.

Part one of any scam is the obvious pay and we deliver phase, most people won't fall for that.

HOWEVER.. what hasn't been mentioned here... the number listed is grouped as a pn4 level... meaning it's a follow me personal number, ie a discreet non owned or traceable number which forwards to a variety of other contact numbers anywhere in the WORLD!!..

The min charge for calling this number from BT would be 23p per min.. plus any further forwarding costs. From a mobile.. which most people would use, as they assume it's cheaper to call mobile - mobile.. the charges start around 89p per min.

The user of the number can have it setup thru certain companies, and receive a share of the call profit. It's therefore in there interest to gain this kind of publicity in the hope some will be encouraged to call.

Nothing is ever straight forward...
Hows about some research before encouraging others to make nuisance calls??

And no.. I do not condone what the alleged fraudster is doing, but nor do I agree with some of the suggestions here.... unless of course your willing to carry out the task and pay the bill yourself??

That is really interesting BR. I had no idea that could be done. How did you know it was pn4 level? Is there a way to check?

ETA
Found out for myself! Its an 070 no. which is a follow me number.

You learn something new every day!

So even if they dont scam the money for a horse they could still be raking money in from the phonecalls.

I have just received a reply from the person i contacted on Coloured Contacts who's horse is for sale on the scammy site and her reply was: -

"Hi again, I have informed the police and emailed him so they now have a log of what he is doing. It's very worrying as there are a great number of horses on his site. "

So hopefully they will do something about it!

If you read the text carefully it is obviously made up of sentences and paragraphs culled from other places.

I think I shall email him with some suitably technical enquires. But he is 'very very busy'--so he may not have the time to respond.

My previous telecom investigation experience gives me the knowledge...
however the simplest way to check on any number, visit BT.com and check the all number call charge listing. That'll provide a grouping code and a pricing level.

Just a pointer re these adverts...
There's no legislation in UK law which makes it an offence to copy and use somebody else's adverts and images.
There is no copyright issue, once you post images and details into the public domain you must accept others may use them, unless you have a legal and clearly displayed copyright contract.

Oops - sorry, I didn't realise that BR, but in fairness I wasn't really expecting anyone to take me up on my 'dare'.

I agree that once something is in the public domain, it is very hard to stop anyone else lifting it. An occupational hazard of mine....

Are you not able to contact horsemart? tell them its a scam so they can stop advertising it, i can imagine some first buyers who dont know all that much *no offence* with the purchasin of a horse will be sucked in-however i dont undferstand how he will scam the buyer...will he ask for a payment through post etc? x

He's making his money on the phone calls. Trade it, the free ad paper, now use these 070 numbers. They charge 37.5p a minute

I had to email him to see what his response would be, so far he has told me he will deliver it or i can pick it up, and a good day to pick him up will be Monday afternoon..... Strange!!

Whats he gonna do when i get there and he has no horse for me? (not that im going to)

Or maybe he will email me back in a little while saying he HAS to deliever it??
