I have had my mare since a foal, she's now 13yrs old. She will not leave the village on some routes. she gets to the very last house then refuses to go any further. she can be nappy, when with with other horses, and doesnt particulaly like to go in front (except when Hunting) but I ride alone 90% of the time with no problem, except when i get to the village perimeter. I have on occasion got off walked with her for awhile till she jogs beside me then when i get back on she continues without a problem. Weird. she does it on all the roads that lead out of our village. shes okay with another horse, and she isnt naughty, just refuses to go forward. i have tried everything believe me! but no only the leading for a few yards works. She is a lot better if I take her somewhere strange in the lorry., its as if shes only comfortable riding around the village as that is what i have been doing for most of her life. but I still wouldnt change her for anything, its just a bit weird, has anyone else got this sort of problem.
When i moved my boys to deep dark Kent for 6 months, we went hacking around some fantastic woodland that went on for miles and miles. We had only ever hacked out around Joydens wood in Bexley, which is ok, but this was amazing riding around Mereworth.
So that I could get both boys exercised, a chap at the yard rode Ralph, I rode Fly and his wife rode there own horse. We was chatting away and not taking any notice of what was going on around us, it was a beautiful day and then all of a sudden my pony Fly strarted to snort and go side ways.
When I looked out in front of me, there was a snake on the floor, Ralph and the other horse had passed it, but Fly went absolutely mad, I have never seen a snake in the UK except behind glass!!!
It even did the sideways snakey movements
The strange thing is that only Fly reacted!!! He was a drama queen
We had an Appy mare and a TbxWelshD who were best mates, the Appy was in charge though. One day the two of them refused to walk forward on the road and were side by side, with the Appy sidling towards the other mare and edging forwards until me and sister had our legs tied together
It took a while to sort out as me and sister were laughing hysterically. She was always thinking up tricks to play on us all.
Yes - slightly similar - my old horse Cass would only go left on hacks. She wouldn't turn right at road junctions, or if there was a sideroad to the left we had to take it, we couldn't carry straight along the main road. She was better in company but on our own it took weeks to crack (and some no-nonsense riding from me). Even after I'd taught her to not always take left turns she still would hang left at every junction.
Tripped over a rabbit that ran under his feet. He didn't even acknowlegde the rabbit's bouncing presence. Just tripped over it. A strange "evil-looking" pebble on the ground however, caused a several-minute plant and stare. Same ride same day!
also once, and only once out hacking instead of whinnying - Donkey lived up to her name and started braying like a donkey - there were tears coming down my face, she has never done it again.
