Kinda following on from the "hi-viz makes you less visible" thread...

For some unknown reason, facebook seems to be a breeding ground for stupidity regarding horses (and other things)

So, what's the silliest thing you've ever read?

One of mine is that if you still need lessons, you shouldn't be riding...um, what?!

Not horsey but someone posting on Monday (after the Marathon bombing) that they were going to be in Boston in 3 weeks time...:rolleyes: I mean, honestly!

1. It's not _all_ about you
2. Highly unlikely to happen again in the same place

Or am I just overreacting?

I just read an add for a feeding company saying high starch and sugar diets (aka over 40%) are good for sport horses because it makes them more efficient... and here I was being an ignorant horse owner trying to find a low NSC formula!

Another person is selling what seems like yoga mat cutouts and branding them as an anti-slip orthopedic saddle pad... can't imagine when the horse starts to sweat!

Yep, my facebook has some weird people...

Stupidest thing must be all the sexual videos all over my homepage!! It's like a porn site now rather than facebook

And horse wise, all the for sale groups advertising foals and elderly horses free or cheap, not caring where they're going just after money!! *Sigh*

Who are you friends with?!

This I don't get - poss because I was a bit of a latecomer to FB and I'm probably doing it wrong, in that all my 'friends' are actually people I know and like (the ones I don't like I might add but restrict what they can see) ;) So I only ever really see stuff posted by people of a similar mindset...

I'm doing it wrong, aren't I? :D

That's the thing, it's not who i'm friends with. Videos with thousands of likes and comments get shared around facebook and then end up on my homepage!! So I'm browsing everybody's updates and there's numerous videos of people doing things to themselves etc..
I hide one, and more pop up. I hate it
And then, you don't click on the video and it's a screenshot of someone naked etc.. *sigh*

Whatever you're doing, keep doing it!!! :D You don't want to see this!!!

Blimey - there's got to be a setting to turn that off, cos I don't get that  Hope you find it, that'd put me right off hahah!

I'm searching to find it. It's sickening, there's children on facebook and they can see all of this. A 'fashion' in Jan/Feb of this year was people 'doing' animals. That's when I refused to go on facebook for a while, come back, all that's gone and now it's teenagers messing with themselves

What has this world come to?!?

Why is it that non horsey people think it's really odd having lessons on your horse.... Whenever I tell people I'm having a lesson I more often than not get the response "but I thought you already knew how to ride"

Not really stupid but..... posted that my horse was being a pain schooling and immediately got told to send him away to a professional to fix him (he was spooking and ploughing off in one corner of the school, not a send awayable offence to me) Other interesting bit was the recommendation of a woman who had backed a 2 and a half year old from field wild to well schooled in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks she couldn't remember exactly. Yeh thanks but I think I could live without someone like that training my horse.

Yesterday a friend posted a picture if his staffie puppy with a baby's dummy in its mouth. When I pointed out that is the most common foreign body we remove from dogs intestines, his girlfriend told me it would be unlikely "Ruby" would ever let go of it again. I assumed Ruby was the pup which was bad enough, but it later became clear that Ruby is actually the daughter bleurgh! I really do hope they at least sterilised it before popping it in her mouth bleurgh!

I've seen this alot on my homepage too - someone doing odd things with an eel was the last one, oh and a banana.

my favorite was actually a post saying,

"let me down why don't you, that's all that's ever happened to me throughout my whole life"

I had to delete it-
1) she's 15
2) her grandparents bought her a horse
3) her grandparents keep the horse at livery for her and drive up every day to do it! sometimes with her, sometimes without her.

The few teenagers I have on my Facebook are forever posting things like that. My parents hate me, everyone's horrible to me, I can't wait to move out. Riiight, same parents that bought you a horse, pay most of the costs, drive you around... Not to mention feed, clothe and house you...

Drives me bonkers!!

^^^as someone that didn't have a perfect home life as a kid I think you're being cruel. Just because someone is young and possibly has a horse, it doesn't mean that they're happy.
Also do none of you remember being a teenager? You'd have been exactly the same on Facebook as a teen.

I was pretty dramatic as a teen so I definitely would have been the one saying everyone hates me, I'm so unfortunate. I actually wasn't I was EXTREMELY lucky as a child so do see where they're coming from. I do hate text speak though which is on Facebook alot. Particularly when the words in questions are even longer than the correct spelling!!

Oh just thought of one someone told me so didn't actually see it myself.

Posted on a horsey group.... "A friend has told me that if I feed my gelding stud mix he will become a stallion. I didn't think it was possible but now I'm not sure"

Try and beat that one!!!!

I actually got diagnosed with depression as a 17 year old because my horse was poorly and had to be off for a year, I did crap in my A-levels, no matter how hard I tried and then I decided to choose a uni 200 miles away from home.... I called it rich girls depression xD

I don't really now about stupid comments etc, on youtube there's plenty of people praising others for being amazing riders, who quite obviously aren't lol.

The one thing I hate about horsey people on FB, when advertising, is the ones that just put a picture up and say "PM for details" NO! you want to sell the horse, you give ME the information before I have to waste my time being interested in a picture of a 12.2hh ponies head, when I want a 16.2hh horse (I know, big difference in head size etc, but it's an exaggeration)

On a horses for sale site on facebook, somebody put a photo of a blackberry and said 'Anyone want to swap this for a horse, any horse, i just want one.' As if anybody who actually cared about their animals would swap them for a phone!

Sadly too many things to start listing, hence the reason in the last few days I removed all from my friends list, unliked all pages and closed my Facebook account.
It seemed over the last few months people started to use Facebook to just constantly moan about how awful their life is, how they hate everyone and every thing, how bad their yard is, I got fed up of holding my fingers and not posting back that if things were so bad then they had a choice put up and shut up or do something about it instead of moaning about it.
I also got fed up of being pestered to play games, like pages I have no interest in and a time line full of like and share to win xyz.
Maybe Im just becoming a grumpy old woman, or very cynical :p

Im in the same boat as parachute. Every morning i go on my phone to go through the nights activities and without fail some long lost cousin or primary school friend has commented on a video of a teen having a go on themselves, once with the title 'it's my body, i'll do what i like with it'

Well why don't you do what you like with it behind closed doors like everyone else that isn't a porn actor.

Oh yes the famous saying of 2013;
''It's my body i'll do what I like''

Well that's very well ladies, but please, keep it to yourself!!

On one of my local pages someone was advertising a lovely pony. One of the replies asked if she would swap for a saddle. Chuckled at that one! Have seen lots of "Me wanna horsey" type posts, but the strange thing is that people, adults even, reply!

I saw a man with a terrier type dog in the town center, and the dog was carrying a baby's dummy. It dropped the dummy on the ground, flipped it around and picked it right back up before carrying on. I would never let my dogs play with a dummy like that.

The stupidest thing I've read on facebook was probably something I wrote myself... :p :D
