Whats The Worst Comment A Judge Has Ever Made To You In A Showing Class?

I've had hes too skinny to place and has no muscle... (He regularly competes in dressage and is built like a tank, he has muscle everywhere and is certainly not underweight!!) But all the other ponies were hugely overweight.

And you should take him in ridden classes instead. (Hes 14.1hh, i'm 5'9 and 20 years old!) I think we are past the ridden classes stage!

Wasn't to me but to a girl who was riding one of my ponies in a ridden show pony class, pony was behaving perfectly well but was neighing quite a lot (first time at a big agricultural show) - the judge apparently told her in the line up that if she didnt "shut the pony up" she'd have to leave the ring!! How on earth do you quiet a pony?! And how horrid considering it was a kids class!

The only comment I can remember was on entering a "native pony" class on my pure bred reg Welsh D at an RC show - the judge came over and asked if I was in the wrong class, I said no he's pure native but she argued that he wasnt a pony as he's 15.2hh... but he's still considered a native pony though!! She had no clue, as he did a super show (and this horse won quite a bit) yet she placed him LAST below PLAITED half natives!

My friend was in an M & M Class and I heard the judge say "What on earth IS that horse?" and placed it last. He is a fully registered 16hh Welsh D!!

iv got terrible habbits when i do things with mac,

and one day we were doing a local dressage comp pre-lim, so nothing major,

and as i was trotting along mac starts his 'im a giraff impression' not realising where i was on the ring, i growled at mac, You Little Bas''**' ..... as you do under pressure - and managed to get him to listen again ...

... we came second with comments from the judge...... perhaps horse whispering needs to be at the volume of a whisper, has nice movement and rider perhaps needs a pair of gloves next time...... i thought she was quite a nice judge really  must be a bit old skoool like me

We went to a local show and were in an in hand welsh class which included all the sections. The judge continued to judge the class and look at each individual pony WHILST ON HER MOBILE PHONE!!! At the end of the class I was placed last, when asked for any advice/reasons she said he just does nothing for me at all. Ok fair enough, each to their own, I'm an adult I can take this with a pinch of salt. But to tell a young 6 year old girl with her pride and joy of a section A that he has no 'wow' factor does he? She walked out the class with a very wobbly bottom lip! Manners cost nothing. I mistakenly went under this judge again in a ridden class to which she never watched my individual show and then placed me last. I completely respect everyone's own opinions but it's only manners to watch each competitor and give them all a fair chance!!!

Years ago I went in young handler with my section A cross (she was very chunky) The top 7 were all finely bred show ponies etc and the bottom lot were chunkies. I asked for any advice for the judge to reply, I just prefer show ponies!

I entered a mixed m and m class with my welsh c who had his tail cut (like the traditional welsh way) It wasn't that short as I'm not a particular fan but he started to stand out in welsh classes. The judge said 'what's happened to his tail? He needs some extensions, it's very short?' I was later told he was a show pony judge so why was he judging a mountain and moorland class!!!!!

AND I went into an equitation class on my welsh, I am tallish but I've never received comments about being under horsed. I was placed last against competitors who had wrong legged it etc (ok they corrected it) I asked for any advice and she said ... you're quite long aren't you? Oh thanks! Do you want me to yank my stirrups up so my knees are under my chin?

Finished now :)

My horse and I took a tumble in a ridden show hunter class, we'd completed the gallop, back to canter then as we came back into trot he slipped which resulted in both of us hitting the deck with horses galloping towards us! Luckily we were both fine and got up, I started to lead him out of the path of oncoming horses so I could check him over, judge approached us and her comment was "I'm going to have to ask you to leave the ring"!! I was so upset , no "are you ok" or "is your horse ok" . All I wanted to do was make sure my horse was ok but had to wait till we were out of the ring.

Too think I was looking forward to my first showing show with Moses on Sat!!!
Now I don't know!!

I did have a dressage Judge write that she could not tell if Moses has preformed a walk in a dressage test (intro A) because of his tail! I would have thought it would have shown through his rump but then I am not a judge....blow me if I am cutting off my horses tail for a dressage test!

My horse and a friend's were entered in the coloured class at a county show in the summer. We had come first in another show a few weeks ago so were hoping we would place possibly. Not to be!
The ride judge only placed anything that could be described as a plod. Any of the horses that were any way forward she sat on for mere seconds. And then to top it all off she told my friend that her farrier was rubbish! Her new cob came with awful feet but was coming good with the expert care of her award winning master farrier!

Taking part in a veterans class. My mare was in good health, sound and went nicely. Judge placed a lame horse and a skinny one that refused to canter and we were unplaced. Judges comment was that she couldn't place my horse because she had two big splints. Funny as she didn't have splints before the class, and nor did she have any after the class!

Not quite the same, but when I was 17 and doing a WH class, I got off for the judge to ride and he said "I don't think I'll be sitting on that saddle and you may want to excuse yourself to go to the loo".........I looked at the saddle and to my ultimate horror I had started my period and it was all over my breeches and smeared on my saddle. Mortified, totally mortified. I haven't done another WH class since and I'm not 43!
OMG!!! you poor thing how embarrassing

In a small hunter class. The judge said "Your horse has great conformation, gave a lovely ride and show. However, he is too small to be placed."
He measured 15.3 hh and I was as worried I would be thrown out for being over height.

A foal class. We took our 15hh foal (eight months old) to a winter show. Judge said "Are you sure its a foal?" As he walked behind him judge said "Ooo yes I can see his tail now!!!!!!!!"

Coloured in hand class, first place, despite all the tugging in the world couldn't get her obese horse to trot. Second place not wearing a hat, dressage whip and no gloves and I was told "It's qualified for chaps you know, and your horses chestnuts are too big" Shame she hadn't bothered to ask me what my horse had qualified for, and I never went back to that particular RC Show.

A local show last year was being held by the local riding club so thought the quality of judging would be great.
My dartmoor was entered for m&m small breeds in hand, spectators outside the ring were buzzing about this judge saying how fantastic she was.
As we entered the ring she loudly told me i was in the wrong class, asked if it was class number ? And she said yes it is but new forests are not small breed!!
I pointed out to her he's a dartmoor so she letbme enter but told me his mane was too long and i should pull it up to sucha height (about 2" long).
When i got home i messaged numerous dartmoor breeders and studs and asked their opinion on my boy and whether his mane needed pulling or not. None could understand how she could mistake him for a NF and his mane was fine.

Lady next to me at the tail end of a big in hand class at county, many years ago. She is livid, 'this pony won last week at another county show!'... Pony then proceeds to stand on her foot and knock her over at the same time, hence she is pinned to the ground... Not a good look in a big busy ring!

Veteran in hand class a few years ago, we were the only non Arab in the ring and the judge had already demonstrated that she knew many of the Arab owners who were showing that day. My coloured cob tows me up and down the ring with gay abandon breaking into canter for good measure. I didn't quite realise at the time just what she was insinuating when she said that I 'don't actually know his real age' (as in coloured cobs two a penny and don't have pedigrees going back centuries as Arabs do) I said that I bought him as a five year old and had owned him 14 years... I should have said crack on and check his teeth yourself please but you always remember the smart comment a little too late!

The nicest comment I ever had (and I am clutching at straws here!) was in a ridden cob class, and that my horse had the shortest cannon bones in the class. He was an excellent judge (Norman Scott) and everyone I think came out of the ring with a positive comment.

I experienced a really rude judge in an ex racer ridden class. She stood watching someone doing their individual show looking very bored and loudly said to the steward that she 'couldn't wait to go for a fag after this class'. Not very professional...
