Had an email from the Pony Club. It said there is a lovely pony for loan - BRILLIANT
BUT
I prefered a mare - this is a gelding
This gelding is at the top end of the height bracket - 12.2hh
(don't kick me here, but he is the least favourite colour of mine - pally!)
And rightly or wrongly he is 26!
However He is well known for being a fab lead rein/first pony.
My biggest concern is that my mare Meg is the boss, she can be grumpy and no way will anyone stand in her way. When she is in season she can be very flirty, but hoping that if 'Beano' comes our way he is too old to make her flirt more! But I hope he can still move out of Megs way when her boss hat is on!
Thoughts about this please!

is it worth a trial? my first pony was 33 when he came to us, and he was boss over a 16.1 CBx and a seriously stroppy dales pony mare. i'm sure 'Beano' would be quick enough to move, or sensible enough to not be there in the first place!

Hey! A good pony is a good pony

as you undoubtedly know, like rocking horse poo to find, forget that he's a blonde. I think age in a small pony doesn't matter half so much, especially as a LR/FR, they've been around the block a few times, know all the tricks admittedly, but generally, when push comes to shove, they know their job as well. If they don't consistently send their riders into orbit or try to eat them that's an added bonus

If it goes pear shaped with Meg and he doesn't work out, then he is ONLY on loan so can go back home. I certainly wouldn't pass him by without taking a look.

Why didn't I ever find anything like him when I was after LR ponies? I had to make my own.

Good Luck.

Height? In North America, and Germany, many children learn to ride on horses, educated small ponies seem to be a bit of a rarity over here.

A good pony is like gold dust whatever the sex, colour, height, breeding or age.

I would snatch their arm off. Im sure you can work something out with Meg. You never know - she might love having a new little friend.
