What's wrong with Fodhla

Vet is booked for 3.30 but I always find if helpful to have ideas of what could be wrong before hand so can prepare myself.

Fodhla hasn't eaten her breakfast, was lethargic on her walk, did do 1 normal poo today, hasn't had a wee since 7am or drank any water. She growled at OH twice today which is very out of character - and he wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, one of the times he was approaching her with some cheese to see if she'd eat it! She won't even eat cheese and also turned her nose up to a bit of sausage. She's not always great with her breakfast in general so that wasn't cause for major concern but the rest is very very out of character. She also seems very tired.

I'm worried sick 😭

Oh they do worry us don’t they. My over active imagination always go straight to all manner of horrendous things that could be wrong. I then usually come away from the vets feeling ever so slightly stupid for getting in a state when it was something quite minor and easily fixable. Fingers crossed she will be fine.

This is my suspicion-not sure if because I genuinely think that or if I like to think the worst possible scenario. My nerves 😭

@meggymoo I'm just like you but I'd rather go to the vet everytime than not go the time it was needed.

Try not to panic, even if it is a blockage, a young dog is likely to bounce back relatively quickly, even if surgery is needed. So any time my dogs have behaved in this way it has been either a blockage, bad bout of gastroenteritis or a spleen issue. She would be far too young for the spleen thing, IMO.

Thanks CC.

She had an awful bout of gastro this time last year roughly, not long after we got her, and it was absolute hell on earth having this manic new rescue dog in physical distress. I think that time I managed to convince myself she'd parvo. She is much better situated now to deal with whatever it is.

If the vet says it's not a blockage how do they rule that out? Should we push for xray or will a phsyical examination guide them? I'm not great with doctors/vets tbh. Bad experience with both previously!

I'm not one of these people who goes through life being anxious about absolutely everything, but I'm a mess when it comes to my dog 🙈

Doesn't seem to be a blockage - they did an ultrasound and nothing showing, but we're under strict instructions on monitoring her over the next while, I'm to call back first thing in the morning if no improvement or OOH if deterioration . They are fairly confident it's a bacterial infection and she's had an antibiotic shot and a probiotic sent home with her. Apparently many dogs locally presenting similarly recently so maybe just a wee bug doing the rounds. She also mugged the vet for a treat and basically just made a liar out of me-this is the dog who wouldn't eat a sausage earlier.

Oddly enough she has perked up a small bit since coming home from the vet.

We have been told to feed her as normal but avoid anything rich. She still hasn't drank anything so he has said we can syringe her a small bit of water if necessary and would like us to try to get a urine sample to bring back just to rule that out. She had the thermometer up the bum so between that and the injection she didn't have a great time at the vet 😂

I know i don't know I'm going to manage it 😂 thank god I spent so long training her that it was okay to go when on the lead or I'd have no hope.

While all this has been going on my parents have been on the way up to visit so if she's not happy to see her very favourite person (my dad) I'll get worried then but hopefully she starts to perk up more.

We have our final dog school session tomorrow and she's been doing amazing, I didn't think to ask the vet but I'm guessing we should give it a miss on the chance she's contagious.

When she starts to squat, sneak up behind her with a ladle. I keep one for the purpose.:)

It shouldn't contaminate the urine if you rinse it with boiling water before use.

Glad its not a blockage AP. Cuddles with Granda will be as soon as the antibiotics
