another question...
right the horse ive bought had a runny nose when i went to visit him, it was yellow and thick discharge and had little speckles in like dust. Do you think he could have a allergy or something? also that was three weeks ago but now he only has a clear light discharge but on both occasions it was only coming out of one nostril. I thought it was a cold but now im not so sure, he seems to be getting better though.it didnt smell or anything, he was eating as usual and was still his lively self. He is having a vet check next week anyway but i am really worried now, anybody have any ideas on what it could be. Thanks

My horse had a tooth abscess which wasn't diagnosed correctly - it was treated as primary sinusitis. It initially seemed to improve with anti-bs, but a couple of weeks later it started again - it was made worse the more exercise she did as the blood pressure increased. It would flow in bucketfuls onto the floor. Mine was an exceptional case and cost about £6500 as it involved several months in hospital while the vets made error after error, which I had to pay for. Most involve a tooth removal and depending on where the tooth is in the mouth depends on whether your vet can sort it or whether it involves an anaesthetic at hospital.
Hopefully this won't be the problem with yours - it might just be primary sinusitis.
Good luck and let us know how you get on when the vet has been.

Has there been any coughing, or any other signs? And is the horse eating ok or at all off colour?

If its gone from yellow to clear, and the amount it reducing, it does sounds like the horse is improving.

nope he is his usual self, he has been eating as usual and wasnt very happy when we had to put his bridle on and stop him from eating his breakfast

hi just to let you know how he is, we got the vet out and he said it had been a mild infection which has now cleared itself up. i am so pleased, he is now coming home on the 30th march. thanks for your help
