So after my little dabble in 'flatwork with crosspoles in the way' (ingenius way in which schooling buddy tricked me into jumping), a small ditch out on a hack a couple of weeks ago and the trec last weekend in which two banks, ditches and a log (well, twig) 'got in the way', today I voluntarily - all of my own free will, completely by myself, without any outside intervention - jumped five jumps. FIVE. And at least one of them definitely required Knobberts picking his feet up. And I think... THINK... I may have enjoyed it.

And now I'm considering going (tiny weeny miniature) cross-country schooling with a friend this weekend.

WHAT is wrong with me, is it treatable, and do I need to see a doctor?!!

There is no real long term cure. Symptoms will get worse requiring the jumping of more and larger fences. You have my sympathy as a fellow sufferer.

Ditto this.

Tried the creams, lotions and potions, sadly they don't work.

You'll also find yourself slipping into the next stage, which is a yearning for something called 'cross-country colours', finding yourself doodling designs and colours combinations in your tea breaks. Plus, you'll drift from New Lounge to posting things called 'comp reports' in Comp Riders.

Good luck my friend. All I can say is, we wish you the best and we'll always be here for you :D:D

No cure found as of yet... ironically the bigger/scarier the jump, the more your body rewards you for jumping it, and the longer the high will last!
Good luck, you wil have a blast!!

It must be treated as a proper addiction. The more you do it, the more you want. The only way you can curb the wanting is by jumping bigger and bigger. Do not try to go cold turkey without help, as it could hurt!:D:D

Love it mrs mozart :D:D:D
And sadly all are right, the more you get the more you want, havent found a way to break the habit yet...... Dont know if id want to its to much of a buzz

I think you may have developed a low grade case of 'Jumpitis'. Some are afflicted in a chronic way wanting to leap over fences high enough to block the light out of the house.

Treatment - None

Jumpitis once it hits you slowly and steadily increases until you find you can actually see the jumps without your glasses on.

Have fun - we need piccies

Oh no, it doesn't sound good for me :(

Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to give xc a try on Sunday - we were hoping to borrow a mate's lorry but can now only get a trailer and friend's horse won't trailer with other horses. And I AM DISAPPOINTED! Not looking for excuses not to go, but disappointed that I can't!

As for the matching colours - dressageyness has that sorted already... and getting bigger jumps? Eep!!! Tempted to test out the new gate that a livery's hubby made this weekend.

Still doing it all in a dressage saddle tho! ;)

No pictures yet, haven't managed to persuade anyone to come near us with a camera for a while actually! Plus they're only teeny weeny things (at least for the Knobster ;)) at the moment.

There's a chance maybe this weekend though... will see how things play out and if this spell of jumpitis/bravepantwearingitis wears off or not!! :D

OMG...its catching......i jumped a teeny tiny cross pole yesterday. Was having palpatations going up to it the cool teenagers all started shouting 'woowooo GO xxx whoop whoop' (they're nice really, it wasnt in a horrible way but a nice come on and do it woman way) and inside my head went ahhhhhhhhhAHHHHHHahhhahhhAHH

My boy was fab, and after i popped over it a couple of times asked the teeny boppers to put the jump up and up and up again.....still a cross pole....but bigger:eek:

It still gives me a mild feeling of panic but i totally found myself loving it! I had the biggest grin on my face afterwards. And everytime he flew over it I had a little moment of WEEEEEEEEE.......yay we did it and i didnt fall off!...then back to oh sh8t have i got to do it again.....followed by...WEEEEEEE...over again....

I hope i catch the bug properly....I used to love it so much as a kid, but am just soo much more afraid now :( slowly slowly we'll get there!

OOOh im another one who thinks we need pics of the Monty man jumping! Fingers crossed you get out to your crosse country soon!

The first stage on the road to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Pop down to your local Jumpaholics Anonymous group, have a cup of tea and say it "I'm Trish C and I'm a jumpaholic"...

Maybe one of them will offer you a lift to xc this weekend, then, 'cos we all know jumpaholism isn't something you can ever recover from :D:D:D

Welcome to the club :D

Good woman, go you! :) :) It's the thought of it worries me, when I'm actually in the school on the horse I don't seem to panic and do just settle and enjoy it... but the thought, eep!

Might manage to get a couple of pics this afternoon, will see how the bravepants are in front of my friend who's coming out to see him! Will keep you updated ;)

Frutsration central with the xc - turns out I could now get there but she's going tomorrow instead of Sunday and I have to drive all the way to s*dding Cork for a Fleadh Cheoil tomo morning. Boo!

Thanks for the encouragement guys - I hope this carries on too because I also loved jumping when I was younger... used to think nothing of flying an oxer on the top of our plastic jumpstands on my pingy Cleveland Bay. Now I get worried standing next to a jump that big! ;)
