Last night our 5 year old bitch (border collie/Alsatian cross) woke us up by walking around panting all night. She was really restless like when fireworks go off (there wasn't any) but we put it down to the heavy winds outside rattling stuff.

Woke up this morning to see that in the night while we were asleep, that she got into the storage larder where I keep the stock for my business and destroyed several high price items. She also got into the kitchen bin as well.

Then tonight, we were gone for about 20 minutes to pick up our New Years takeaway, to find that she ripped the door frame off of the kitchen door as well as some of the bricks that held it on!! The kitchen is her "den" as that is where her bed is next to the warm radiator and her food bowls and she is quite capable of opening the door on her own as well.

She's not spayed but has never done this sort of thing before (except the normal destruction the puppies do when she was a pup), has a healthy appetite and seems generally ok.

I'm dreading when the fireworks go off tonight making her worse!!

If this is phantom pregnancy, what can I do with such a destructive dog? Can the vet do something or do I just have to wait it out. Get her spayed? I have had unspayed bitches before and none have ever been so destructive.

When was she last in season? It matters, false pregnancies all so often fall 9 weeks +- after the last few days.

Poor girl, she doesn't sound to happy.

I added an additional 'edit', but if her last "season", really was last Spring, then I'd get her off to the vet, not perhaps as an emergency, perhaps Wednesday will do, but I'd be asking why she's so apparently uncomfortable, or so unhappy; the two can all so often be the same thing.

A fast respiratory rate would be having me look a little closer too. Look at her general disposition also. How does she seem, "Generally"?

Another question, How old is she?

Alec.

That is what I'm thinking too about the fireworks. Maybe a combination of things.

She is still playful but keeps carrying around socks and rocks in the house and being clingey with me.

When the vet reopens, i'll take her in to be sure.

Good idea, better safe than sorry, good luck, hope there's nothing wrong, Oz
