O.k this is my horse so i know i'm biased but i think he is stunning. I really really what to try my hand at some bigger shows but was told by a couple when i rang to find if they have any classes for him that ''No one likes tradionals or wants to show them either get him hogged or learn side saddle.''
I'm not going to learn side saddle i cant afford it and dresses aint my thing. And why should i hog him i have spent an hour a day brushing that tail main and feathers for the last 7 years just to cut it all off. plus its part of who he is. This just makes me sooooooooooooo mad :mad::mad::mad:

p.s. sorry for any spellings cant spell for toffee:o

What a load of b@ll@cks! You can show him anywhere. Most shows have his type in driving classes or native types etc. What breeding is he? I'm sure if you try hard enough you will be able to find suitable classes for him. I think he's very nice and it must take you ages to get his mane and feathers clean and brushed!

what an ugly ugly beast!!! how dare you bringhim out in public!!!!!!

:D beautiful animal! stunning! dont listen to thosestuck up turds :D.go have fun with your horse.

Oh he's gorgeous!!! But how on earth do you keep the mud out of all that hair?? Is he a breed? I can't imagine that there would be a class for him otherwise, unless he can go in a traditional class but dunno if they have to be coloured (?). On the other hand, bet he'd win some fun classes such as "handsomest gelding" or "best tail". Of course why would you want to show him when everyone is so unimpressed by him- damn them, take him to something better like the world hairdressing championships!!

hes a registed gypsy cob so natives our out as its not a set breed in the larger shows you have to be a registed member of their set breed societys and i dont drive him

although Im not a great fan of the 'hairys' all that I can find negative is his waist line! Could be the pic but he looks almost obese to me. Apart from that there is little else to comment on.

Well I love your horse, but I suppose I am biased, I love traditionals, they are my favourite sort above all others :D

Have to agree about the weight, in those pictures he does look too heavy round the middle

as for the weight thing, unfortunatly the judges like horses to be obese bordering lamanitic, how it has got to this i dont know! i think you boy is lovely and im sure youl come across a traditional class for you!

He is gorgeous, very handsome. If there are no classes for his sort, then there should be!

He is lovely, if a little rotund(!) surely there must be classes catering to Heinz 57 horses?! Apart from the bog standard silly ones like prettiest face etc (which really are for nippers surely?!)

See for his build i dont think he is horrifically overweight. Maybe 'round' but i wouldn't say he is fat. Hes built to be like that?

Sorry but that is not true. I judge a lot and I do not like obese horses and many of my fellow judges don't either. Thankfully the old school are becoming better informed.

OP Do you have Heavy and Hairy classes in your area? I think he would do very well in these although the heavy does not mean fat, it means Vanner types.

He is lovely, I have the same problem with my warmblood cross though, as a yearling there are very few (if any) shows that have sport horse youngster classes, they are all hunter classes, and my boy is not a hunter!!!!

As said earlier unless you have a hunter, cob, hack, native (M&M) arab, coloured etc then showing classes are pretty hard to come by.

Obese? Fat? Rotund? Overweight? You rascals - he's just Free Range!!!

He is stunning - I love feathers and flare. I used to have a colour woolly who was always looking a bit on the free range side and I used to ride most of the day (abroad in boiling weather, by the way) and fed him fresh air!!

Tue there ar'n't many classes for Gypsy Cobs, sadly, I know from experience cos I have one too! Your horse is beautiful, and not obese either, they are built this way and most of what other say is fat is in fact muscle. Mine is the same, and when he tightens the tummy muscle he has what some call a heave line so I know he is not fat.
Peole do not seem to realise that heavy work, for which gypsy horses are designed for requires "slow twitch" muscle type which requires a lot of energy close by the muscle fibres for metabolism. the fat is "marbled" through the muscle so the the bulk is composed of fat and muscle together. Hence the reason decathlon athletes are usually big powerful people like Daly Thompson. marathon runners as thin and light like racehorses with "fast twitch" muscle fibres and hence do not have much fat in the muscle. If you slim a horse like a Gypsy Cob down too much you will take away the power to move that heavy framework of bone too! Sorry, I did muscle physiology at Uni. Put your horse in showing classes like natives etc the judge may like him anyway - thats what I do! Anyway Gypsy Cobs are getting more popular as people are realising how nice it is to have a safe sane versatile horse rather than a nutty highly strung thing. The classes will come!

unfortunatly there isnt any tradional classes in the area as this is what i would like to do as it would be a more even playing field i'd know he had done well or not for his type

Ermm.....I agree....when I read your post I thought you were asking for confo critique or something....he is overweight but generally a nice sort.....

I do think this is changing though....someone I know was told by a judge her horse was too fat ( actually he looked like one of those big white bulls - only missing the ring through his nose)......so there ARE judges out there who will mark down for weight issues..

get yourself on a show organising committee and get a class put in, if it gets enough entries they will keep it. :)
