I tend to use saddlecloths mainly as well as the polypads. I think it is just someting I have got used to buying. I really rate the nuumed saddlecloths, they wash and wear very well

.

What do you lot use?

Do you swap and change, or go with whatever is the best bargain at the tack shop, or what your saddler recommended? Do you have different ones for competitions ... ?

Whats your favourite make?

I use the Nuumed ones with the fluffy bits. I use squares when I take him out and at home I tend to use shaped ones because then he doesn't get a big sweaty area.

I tend to use saddle cloths rather than numnahs - I found that numnahs tend to slip about under the saddle more.

I am not a fan of polypads though, and only use them for lungeing (under a roller). I used to love them, then my instructor showed me that polypads tend to slip down as you ride, eventually lying flat acros the horses back under the saddle, and putting pressure directly on the spine. No matter how I tried to pull the polypad into the gullet of the saddle, it would always slip after riding for a few minutes, so I gave up with those and switched to padded saddlecloths.

I also use a real sheepskin half-numnah pad under my saddle, normally I put that between the saddle and the saddlepad.

I used saddlecloths, unless I am showing/dressage then I will use a numnah.
I buy any not really stuck on a make, although most are shires as they come in nice colours and have nice wool or whatever it is at the top of it.

i always used 2 use saddlecloths, but my pony had to have laser treatment on her back after a label on the saddlecloth rubbed her. you'd never have thought something so small could cause such a problem, and i now use a plain nuumed numnah on her, and i have sheepskin nuumed numnahs for my sj horse, as he's on working livery at a college when i'm at uni, and i find these give him more protection with lots of different riders on his back. he has 3 of these, one for competing and 2 for everyday that i got off ebay! i agree about polypads not being good, my saddle fitter said that because of their thickness, they can make even a fitted saddle too tight, and they do slip down and lie flat on their backs!

I only use Nuumed Hi-Wither types on my pony - I've tried other makes but they all seem to pull down.

ATM I'm using my Nuumed Hi-Wither dressage squares underneath my VSD - it's the only one that's got the depth to fit it properly, the GP numnahs I have are not deep enough - think I need to get ebaying or if anyone has some dressage depth ones they want to swap?

I used to prefer numnahs and would still use them for showing / hunting but like the look of saddlecloths now

Always has to be Nuumed hi wither, either pro pad plus or sheepskin. Not fussed as to whether it's numnah or pad as long as it's Nuumed.

Have bought other makes but have ended up geting rid of those!

I have just had a new saddle made for my horse and the saddler insists that you should not use anything underneath it. He said its the same as us buying a pair of shoes that fit perfectly and then putting on a thick pair of socks! So I have stopped using anything.... saddle needs cleaning more often though!

I have mainly used numnahs before mainly because that is what all my horses have come with when I have bought them and unfortunatly they don't get spoilt that often.
I think saddlecloths are very smart and bought one for one of mine along with a sheepskin half pad (through saddler recomendation when I bought the saddle).
I don't really like PolyPads any more for the same reason as others have mentioned, I do like think they are nice looking but now after riding a few of the uni horses in them I wouldn't have one on my own unless it was under a roller.

Not fussed about the make so long as they wash well and don't break the bank.

Nu-med wool lined numnahs for me - comfortable for the horse and not tacky to look at! I always think saddle cloths make her look fat so don't tend to use them!
