What's your favorite/worst hunting country, and why??

Just wondering what everyone was into.

i think everyone loves where they hunt, I love our Rockwood country, we have a mix of stone walls, hedges, rails and hunt jumps. I love the walls, bigger the better!!! :grin: although we do lack PROPER hedge hopping country - so, although I haven't been for a while I love the Readyfield when they are in Leicestershire! :)

I did one day with the Badsworth when I was a kid in plough - not my cup of tea at all!! NEVER AGAIN!! Don't think I'd like big dike country either - far too scary! :p

Sooo - what do you guys like?? :)
 
I loooove our country, apart from that day when it was really muddy and badger got a bit of a muddy makeover.
I didn't like Y&A north because we didn't really do anything, apart from trot through gateways and people got a rush over jumping little streams, I like jumping up and over things, not over big holes in the ground, my horse gets very confused when there is no height, he tends to put his feet in things!
Didn't like hunting in cornwall either, too much moorland and nothing to jump!
 
I think we are pretty lucky TBH Rosiie - which makes me think we are a bit harsh on them sometimes?

Yes they meet late, cancel for rubbish reasons but at least when you go they leave the ground - a lot! :)
 
I love the country my pack hunts, except when we go through bogs that is! We have a fantastic mixture of stone walls, hedges, hunt palins, ditches etc.
 
I have to say our's is the best country (but then doesn't everybody!!)
We have walls, rails, wire, hunt jumps not enough hedges though! The ground is brilliant except when wet (we haven't hunted since new years day because of the wet :-( )
I would love to hunt with the Wynnstay mounted ;-)
Don't think I have hunted in a bad country yet & have been with at least 20 packs up & down the country.
I will push the boat out & say the hounds at this pack now are the hardest to live with!! ;-)
 
I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I really enjoyed SHH country, a bit of jumping but the plough irritated me. Ledbury was good fun but mainly hedges and rails/gates. My real love nowadays (pre ban) is Exmoor and where I am, its so open, few roads and certainly no main ones like in the south east, fantastic scenery to really be able to watch the hounds work, I love the variety with valleys, moor/mountain and woodland. I think I'm changing from an adrenalin junkie to someone who prefers to watch the hounds work.
 
I'd have to say my absolute perfect hunting country would be Rockwood's walls and rails mixed with B&BM's good hedge days like Frickley!
 
i think middleton have pretty good country as well...lots of hunt jumps and fab hedges especially at Garrowby. i hate big dyke country and also i have to agree when i have been out with the york and ainsty north it has been a bit tame!
 
love rockwood, but only when im on Arthur, Charlie hates the fallen stones on the ground approaching and landing with the walls ... (hes a wimp!), but yes prob does lack a few nice hedges,

Found badswroth a wee bit tame, but great for first timers/young horseys
 
I like Readyfield, but only on the OJD's because horse and I are wooses (well what do you expect with an Ayrab:) ), and we can miss one if we don't fancy it (and have a giggle with Fred).

Enjoyed Rockwood last 2 seasons, but every time we've tried to get out with them this year, they've cancelled, so don't bother any more.

Going out with the G&R when they are in Wentworth on the 14th - just because I can hack to it....

Thats a shame. I do agree they have been particularly slack this season. :confused:

i think you're right, everyone loves where they hunt (or why would they hunt there?)
i love bilsdale country - we do a bit of everything, moors, forestry, farmland and anything else we come across. we have legendary bogs, and not many jumps - though that is changing slowly.
my only complaint is that there is an unregistered pack hunting our country and it limits where we can go cos landowners don't want both packs on their land (we do have most of it tbh)
the sort of horse you'd want is half bred ID or soemthing with a bit of bone and brain, a lot of folk hunt cobs or ponies.
our farmland days are fast and furious, our forestry days are busy, but steady away and our moorland days are just stunningly beautiful. :D
