What's your favourite breed?

Fells :D

But also, I don't think much beats a good TB - especially a proper quality chaser type (just so happens that my favourite tb in the whole world was related to the tank himself - Denman). If I could get a second horse (lottery win required!) I think I'd look for a TB or IDxTB.

For a gentle ,kind, unflappable nature with enough bone to carry an adult you can not beat an Ardennes (Trait Ardennais) which is why RDA use them. Fany is the sweetest natured mare I have ever met and they are also used for endurance on the continent.

For talent, presence and "look at me" ness a KWPN the most sucessful of all the WB breeds in Dressage, of the top 5 stallions in dressage 3 were KWPN and also ranking in the SJ world. Truly versatile and beautiful horses, especially
my one! :p :D

Shetlands rock and if yo can ride a stroppy Shetland you can ride anything! Never met one who was not an escape artist or didn't have a huge character, long lived and very giving they are amazing little ponies.

Clydedales every time! Big gentle giants but they still have a 'bit about them' when you give them the chance. They may be big but they're generally not that wide and are lovely personalities. Plus they can jump so you're not missing out on anything by having one!

Mecklenburg! had the pleasure of owning one and riding a few over my years and they are a pleasure to work with in the end!

Like Oldenburgs and Holsteiners as well

And of course you can't beat a good old Dartmoor pony!

Connemara all the way! So versatile, intelligent and can do practically anything! My first pony was a connemara x welsh so I guess I've always had a soft spot for them and my girl is connie x ID. I prefer the more athletic/workman-like types (even though my girl has short front legs!) than the long flowing mane, fatter show types but love them all. Never known one that can't jump really well and they are great fun. Love the fact that most are grey as I'm a sucker for a grey despite the cleaning! I know connie x tb are very popular although I've never ridden any.

A warmblood comes a very close second - one day when I find one that passes the vet (after 3 failed) I will have a new dressage horse ;) for now the search continues!

TB's and Highland ponies - as my gorgeous girly is half of each. A friend has just bought a stunning KWPN though, would say no to one like hers either :-)

It's got to be anything draughty from the Percherons to Vanners. Maybe it's a man thing and I know our relationship with the horse has shifted from working to recreational but I have far greater respect for something stocky & purposeful than anything "poncy". My tickboxes when looking for a horse were - big, stocky & feathery. It'll be why I have a Shire then :)

We own and breed TB, Arab, Anglo, QH and ArabxQH. Love them all.
My mind wanders towards falabella's as I approach my dotage. As you can see I like a refined animal (including the whippets)
Couldnt have a cob or a Labrador.

Ive also never liked the circus horse appys but have a appy x cob and shes the best ever (only 2 years old )

Appaloosa, absolutely love them.
tb, didnt' think I would like until I met a few,and got my tb. Hes very intelligent, and has a really good horsey sense of humour.
Standardbreds, tough and steady.
Quater horse, the ones I ve met have been really nice, calm characters.
Australian stock horse, the ones Ive ridden have been lovely.
Waler horse, didn't even know about walers until a couple of years ago, and a freind introduced me to them.
Kx

Perhaps not surprisingly, since discovering the PRE they really have become my favourite - noble, intelligent, stylish, and with a fab work-ethic.

BUT, I love all the assorted breeds in my herd because they all have special qualities.

I love my moorbred dartmoors because they are tough, intelligent, very street-wise and the most people-friendly ponies you could imagine that can turn their hoof to anything. Cost nothing to keep either.

But, I still have a soft-spot for my TB, and think that it's one of the most versatile breeds, that can be sadly underestimated.

But, tbh I just love all horses.;)

Well, I'm really partial to that little-known breed, the GreyDonk . . . their conformation can be a little weird, they are prone to club feet and their general conformation can be quite "upright" . . . but they are fun, athletic, quirky horses with nice movement and a super jump. They are intelligent and have a well-entrenched sense of fun and play - do not leave anything within reach unless you are prepared for it to be chewed, chucked, stepped on, twirled, etc. They have an irrational fear of crowds of young primary school children and like to carry their own leadropes back from the field. Oh, and they only come in grey.

P.S. Sorry couldn't resist . . .

Am I one of the few people who find Akhal-tekes beautiful? I'd love to have one at some point in the future. My main love is Arabian horses but I also have a huge soft spot for TB ex-racers. :)

I might be one of the other people, and Arabs (and obviously silvery blue cats!)and all the Welsh ponies you keep linking to on Preloved...

:D :D :D

I do hanker after a little pony, even though I have no use for one at all. I think that it's due to all the wonderful ponies I was lucky enough to know as a child.

PS. Silver blue cats are the bees knees. ;) :p

ETA, Polarskye - fantastic photos. :)

I don't think I replied to the original thread so here goes.. I don't think you can beat a good warmblood for being an all-round athletic competition and leisure horse :)
