My horse is schooled 5 days a week, lunged one or two days and then oaccasionally has a day off. Unfortuantely we don't have any hacking around us, so I have to make do with just walking round the edge of the field when cooling off.
I usually compete (dressage) every other weekend on average, but sometimes every week and sometimes we have a few weeks doing more training. I usually have a lesson every couple of weeks, but haven't for the last few months!
When he is schooled, I usually spend 15 mins walking in, 40 mins warming up, suppling and doing exercises to get him more engaged etc (including some movements) and then 15 mins cooling off.
Ridden 5-6 times a week, usually hacked out twice lunged once, jumped once / free jumped and schooled for 3 sessions. I consider this light work as I don't ask loads of him, we have an eventer based at our yard that has 1 of her own and 1 in for schooling she has a similar work routine but her horses work twice as hard, she really puts them through their paces in the school, and her hacks are focused and active wheres I daudle and meander around.
We went show jumping locally on Sunday and we generally get out about twice a month to unaffliated and rc comps, I'd say Ryu is fit enough to do half a days hunting comfortably.
Ridden 6 days a week, for around 30-60 mins a time, sometimes longer at weekends. Usually 2 1hr lessons a week - if a jumping lesson its trot/canter only, bar a short walk break every 15 mins. We are hopefully starting doing winter SJ tomorrow, but then its only every 2 weeks as I don't want to BSJA until I am sure he would be any good.
He also gets 2/3 gallops a week if the weather is good - and by this I mean about 250m up a slight hill 2 or 3 times a session - and some cantering back down.
I did previously class his workload as Medium, but was told it was light as we did not compete every week.
My horse is fit though, you cant see his ribs, but he is well muscles and is not covered in squidgy fat. And he is more than happy to work, and quite often his cobbyness takes over and he wants to jump/canter/gallop when its finish time!
Monty has just come back from being schooled so his routine is 1/2 hour hack, then next 2 days 10 mins lungeing and 20 mins schooling and then either a day off or another hack before day off depending on how it fits in with the kids.
I don't know what that would be classed as though?
Murphy is hacked two/three times a week, 'schooled' in the very loosest terms once a week, and jumped once a week with one day off. I would say his work is light to medium.
He is ridden 4-6 days a week, occasionally lunged once a week but always has one day off a week at some point. He is mostly ridden in the school - I'm not going to call it schooling as that gives the impression that i know what I'm doing, which i don't! I try to get out for a hack once a week if possible, and get poles, barrels and little jumps out in the school when I can to keep him interested. I usually ride in the school for about 45 minutes. Every few weeks I have a lesson.
ETS: I would class this as light work (done by a heavy pony
)
I do try to vary things a bit so he doesn't get bored...but TBH he is perfectly happy in the school as long as he gets to let loose and have a good fast canter!!
Chloe is currently ridden a couple of times a week, once for 25 minute schooling session with me, then my mum bumbles around the school, and maybe has a short hack. She is hacked for about an hour on saturday and sundays. She's in light work.
Megan is ridden most days. She has about 45 minutes flat schooling or 25-20 mins jumping Mon-Fri, then is hacked out at the weekends for anywhere between 1 hr and 4 hrs, depending on how much free time I have. She has one hour dressage lesson a fortnight, and 30 mins jumping lesson on alternate fortnights. I class her as being in medium work.
We compete rarely due to lack of transport, but hopefully after xmas we'll be out and about every couple of weeks.
I have just started to bring my boy back into work after 5 months off, but when he is in working mode he will be ridden 5/6 days a week all hacking of 1 to 2 hours and mainly in trot. He will do a pleasure ride of up to 20 miles a week too during the summer and autumn months. But I would class that as light work - he could do a lot more without being pushed.
Hmmm im intrigued to know what mine would be classed as too. 1 x long hack (ie between 2.5hours and 4 hours). 1 x medium hack (ie 2 - 3hours). 1 x short hack (ie 40mins - 1.5hours) 1 jumping session. 1 schooling session. 1 lunging session. Occasionally a lesson thrown in there too. He is also doing the odd sponsored ride and a couple of shows per month - until now only showing but from Nov will include dressage and jumping. Reading this I feel a bit mean actually!!
Hacking 3-4 times a week, short fast hacks of 40 minutes at mostly trot, canter and gallop, or long slow hacks of around 3 hours with a few canters.
Then I'll school 2-3 times a week, when there's usually jumps up in there so I'll pop a few jumps as well. Schooling for us is about 30 minutes, with a warm up in walk, trot and canter, followed by shapes in the school, transition work, and jumping.
We now have a trailer so will be competing in local unaffiliated comps every other week or so.
I have a lesson (which is the hardest work we do) every other week.
No work to light work just now, no real reason, just lacking motivation to get up and go I guess. He's semi-retired so doesn't do anything more than light work!
the only one of mine im riding is the semi retired one!
17yo ISH, ex competition mare.
she does an hours hacking 3-6 times a week in walk with a bit of trot and the occasional very light schooling session(retired due to tendon)
would class as resting really.
My horse is in light to medium work: school, loose school, lunge, or ride around field 5-6 days a week. We've no access to safe hacking as he's too unpredictable on our busy roads. Also do riding club clinics/rallies/dressage competitions at weekends at least once a month.
