What's your motto going to be for this year, then?

Mine would be something along the lines of "stop waiting for the perfect day/weather/tack/routine/help/arena/matching ensemble/horse/clip/lorry and (to steal a phrase) JUST DO IT".

I hope I can live up to it :)

Oh gosh yes, that was me last year, in a nutshell. Well, apart from the 'matching ensemble' bit, we really don't do that! But otherwise, nail-> head. Thanks!

some really good ones here, love it.

'If in doubt, kick it!' and 'Throw you're heart over, the horse will follow' after having a year of riding some buggers of horses I think these two of last years motto's need to stay!

I have a few......I will address my napping habit and will not not need chasing out of the lorry with a lunge whip this season......Lose those parachute pants.......Where there's tea there's hope!:o

Perhaps you should adopt my oft-used "I'm not nervous, I'm excited" mantra.;)

'Best Means of Defence is Attack'
This is for when i'm coming into a jump and I have a dangerous seed of doubt.., It makes me ride instead of sitting like a lemon.

'Relax and have fun'
Because really that is all its about for me, If I don't stress and just go with the flow good things happen :)

Mine is "2011 is the year of the horse" which basically means I'm going to ride and train a lot more!
I should probably explain that 2010 was the year of finishing my PhD/getting married/getting to grips with new career and getting off a ***** livery yard... ;)

'If in doubt, kick' for when Baby has a temper tantrum...

and

'Remember how it felt last summer' - when my own horse was lame all season and I groomed for my sister. I loved her and she did lend me her pony sometimes but watching from the sidelines was hard. I'd have given anything just to be in the ring again, even if I didn't do well. Now I have a pony again, I'm determined to remember how luck I am to be in the ring at all, and not get caught up in competative behaviour.

Mine are stolen rather than original, but they have been with me for a while so they'll sitck:

-'By the time we've stopped being a child we're already dead'

-'Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm' William Churchill-This one is particullaly apt at the moment given that last year was somewhat of a fail-broken horse, no money etc.

-I'm Back, and I'm Bad Becuase you aint never getting rid of me ;)

Balls, yup, can you tell it's been a very long few weeks? lol *hangs head in shame an mooches out* :D
Just realised it says william on fb as well, is it worrying that in theory I'm quite an intelligent university student? lol

Ahhh kerilli I clicked on this thread thinking my motto this year is "Just get on with it"...then read it was yours too!:)
Also various ideas along the line of "just keep bl***y kicking!!"

Dressage:
Stop. Breath. Start Again.

SJ:
Don't just sit there: Ride it

XC:
Seeing is believing. (I had a major confidence bash when we set off on an XC course and I was on the only pony and the smallest after FH was 16.1hh :S suffice to say with one of only 5 clear rounds we were very happy :D :D )

SO to me seeing is believing. Just because I'm not riding a 16.2 bay tb doesn't mean we cant do it :)

Great post, K. Loving it. Think it speaks volumes of your personal experiences, what your motto is, and thus it may change year on year...
Ours, for now is...

Dare to dream..and remember you are privileged to be doing this. :)

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

When the going gets tough the tough get going.

Regret what you didn't do, never what you did

If you don't try you'll never know

And, if in doubt, KICK!!

Ha ha don't worry the matching ensemble was a bit tongue in cheek; but I have felt the need to apologise before that my gaiters weren't the same colour as my boots :o

2011 is also my "year of the horse" after wedding and job change in 2010.

"Take a deep breath" when remembering to be patient with my youngster.

I'm hoping "keep calm and carry on" won't be required for our early dressage tests but have a feeling it might be ;) ;)

'Never look back unless you can smile, never look forward unless you can dream'

'Courage without fear is stupidity....it's okay to be nervous, just don't ride like a ****!'

'ride it like you stole it' - i have that on a hoodie somewhere :p
