What's your motto going to be for this year, then?

Haha, Just realised you meant horse (see my later post!) but even so it amused me in the orinignal contect :D (and before anyone thinks I'm a psycho, no I would never really kick a child...my YO on the other hand... ;) )

"SIT UP"

The one in my sig, "He who stops being better stops being great"

And "Stop trying to get to the grave in one piece ;)"
I have a bit of a self preservation issue riding, a bit is good, but I'm constantly worrying about what I'm doing wrong :o

Some fab ones here, I'm sad and like to write inspiring quotes on random days in my diary!
'Keep calm and carry on' may be one for when I back my youngster

Love this thread, can see many of us are in the same boat and very inspirational!

In general, "Great things are achieved with a plan and not quite enough time", or "NO REGRETS!" (ie, make the descision to run him or not, then stick all the way with it!).

SJ has to be "RIDE him together" (legs!!)

And XC: "Sit back and bloody well kick like you mean it!" also I like the "Ride every fence with 100% commitment!"

"What classes as a great achievement is different for each person. Live to love yourself and your own successes. Don't spend time worrying over not attaining other rider's goals, your own story is just as rewarding."

Ride positively. And the bigger the doubt the bigger the kick (my instructor said that little phrase this wk end and I am going to adopt it.

HAHA great thread :D i would say that mine would be something like "i deserve to be here"
i have a real crisis of confidence at times and often get intimidated by riders who look much more polished/ professional than me...yet i need to realise that (mostly) i am perfectly capable of doing what i am supposed to be doing, and i have as much right to be there as everyone else...

"Legs legs legs" when SJ and XC just to remind myself to use the damn things especially when the fences look huge :D

I've always liked these two...

sticks and stones may break me bones but whips and spurs excite me!

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land between the stars!
(everytime my OH laughs at my dream of riding at the olympics, i know it is unrealistic! but even if i get part way there i will hav got further than a lot of other people!

But im also liking the ...
if all else fails kick (or swear) and probably keep calm and carry on as i have a new 4 yr old and keep needing to remind myself it will all take time!

My instructor always says think "spanky trot" and that works too, makes me giggle a bit but puts me in right frame of mind. But new horse i might be thinking BRAKES more than spanky!

'there's no such thing as a failure, it was just an unplanned outcome.'

I love this saying, heard it from a motivational business speaker but thought that really works in my equestrian world!

Love this thread. Me and pony aren't exactly hot shot competition prospects but after backing him last year this is the first ever year I have started with my own horse! Our motto is going to be "have fun!" because I've spent the last 20 years waiting for him to arrive and now I'm going to damn well enjoy it - whatever we end up doing!!
