What's your OH's relationship with your horse?

Half the time my OH is jealous of my ponio, the other half of the time he is an "expert" in horses.

My OH, bless him, is looking after Murphy for me one day a week so I can do a college course. Yesterday was his first evening looking after him - his instructions are to check pony for injuries, pick out feet, give him his apple and check he's generally happy and OK.

At 4:25pm yesterday I got a phone call (at work) - OH is saying "He won't let me do his back feet". I point out that there is no reason for him not to, and he is trying it on (he tries this one from time to time). I then jokingly suggest to OH that he puts the phone on loudspeaker so I can have a few words with Murphy. So OH puts me on speaker phone and I sit at my desk saying "Murphy, Up! Up!" in a loud, authoritative voice. OH then hangs up phone in disgust.

When I call back 5 minutes later, OH is sounding rather proud. Apparently, despite my best efforts at talking to Murphy over the phone, he was still refusing to let OH pick out his back feet. It then became a matter of PRINCIPLE. It would appear OH and pony are equally pig-headed and neither was giving in. So, OH fetched Murphy's apple in his feed bucket, showed it to him, and then took it away again and lo and behold, Murphy apparently twigged that he wasn't getting it until he behaved. OH then picked his feet out and gave hin his apple, and was rather smug. They have come to an understanding apparently.

I phoned OH from the yard tonight and he said, very genuinely "Is Murphy missing me?" Oh god....

Does your OH get on with your horse? Do the non-horsey OHs occasionally get involved? Does your horse like to try it on for your OH? Are they jealous of each other?

My previous horse liked to trick my OH into holding a bucket of water up to his nose to drink from - and then he used to shake it all over my OH

Yep so much so that when I said I wanted to sell her we had to buy another horse for me so he could keep her. He has now been riding for 8 weeks
 
my OH is good for poo picking, he pretends to be ''hard'' round them but ive caught him hugging them but apparently he's not hugging them he's putting them in a headlock!!!!!

he's a no it all too!! on wednesday he went up there and i didnt and he told me that bear needs a good brush!!!

he's in charge of them for 6 days at the end of the month as im away in milton keynes seeing my best friend!!!!

i'll come back to a pro horseman!!!!

you've got to admit its so cute!!!

my bf liked my horse he started riding my 'friends' horse...then bought him.... now spends more time with his nose in a catalogue/ont tinternet/grooming than i do, in the space of 3 months.

i do love it, me having another that he pays for...but i cant go to the yard now and spend time with my beasty cos hes always there!
 
he is jealous of them, well... he was, now he has given in.
Having said that so did I a bit, since I sold two and bought one to share with offspring.
Now I spend less time in the poo heap so he is a bit happier.
Just posting and thinking about breeding one though, so shall be spending the night outside as well as half the day, that'll pee him off totally!
 
My OH hated horses. With a passion.
We got the first pony and OH really didnt want anything to do with it. He came and stood and watched me lungeing etc (I was breaking him... pony not OH lol), and would shout things and generally make an arse of himself.

I then talked him into buying a pony for the kids. He said he would, but if we had horsey discussions over the dinner table he'd sell him, end of. Oh,a nd we weren't allowed any horsey paraphanlia in the vincinity of the house.
I brought ponio into the garden and OH shouted at him for eating his roses, and ponio freaked at him, and wouldnt have anything to do with him. I seriously thought OH hated him and vice versa.

One day I risked bringing ponio up to the house again, and OH was sitting in the garden. Ponio strolled up to him, bit him hard on the arm and then licked his face. An hour later OH was standing in the garden affectionatley grooming the pony.

Now ponio and OH have a 'bond'. Ponio knows when he comes to the house he just has to neigh really loudly and Oh will bring him an apple. OH doesnt interfere, he actualy asks about things, and finds out facts. He's made us a tackroom out of one of the old outhouses, and will do horsey DIY with enthusiasm. he'll poo pick, and he enjoys taking ponio for walks. AND out house is regularly littered with bridles, boots etc etc, and he doesnt moan at all.

I think he started to feel left out when the kids and I got so much enjoyment, and now has decided it's better to join in and see what all the fun's about.
 
Its making me laugh how many of your OH's are now experts, mine is the same hes spent about a dozen times with them and has started questioning me when i do things a certain way!

Ive Got him a polly hat but as yet he hasnt ridden my TB

excuses excuses lol
 
My OH adores Spring and she him, he is learning to ride on her and they are both doing really well. He is keen to help out with certain things (not mucking out!) and grooms and cuddles her lots. He probably comes down to the stables once or twice a week. He doesn't resent her and knows how happy she makes me

Fortunately my hubby not interested at all!!This i find is good as i can have me time down the yard!!!

my OH is terrified of them!! lily the 2yo gives him hell as she knows he is scared and keeps him in a corner at any oppurtunity, last time he was at the yard helping in the paddock she managed to back him into the electric fence.....did i laugh....never

My OH is brilliant with the horses, apart from the actual work side of things - I mean, how many times do you have to show someone how to tie a haynet!!!! he still gets me to check it everytime and everytime its wrong!!!!

He gets on with the horses that much, he's just bought himself one.... and guess which mug gets to do all the work???? Yep! Me!
 
OH rarely goes anywhere horsey as he's disabled and is a bit nervous around horses but he loves her spending money!

When a catalogue arrives he always asks what she is getting from it and suggests various unsuitable and far too small items. When her frequent and large parcels arrive he can't wait to find out what she has purchased and what it does. He came into some money a while ago and gave her £1000, not me mind you, the horse!

He does occasionally ask if she's moved in as there is so much of her stuff about the house. He does talk the talk to his friends about her though, some of them will have very peculiar ideas about horses as OH doesn't know much but thinks he does.
 
Awww bless he sounds lovely!! Definitley a keeper.

My OH is pretty hopeless, likes the horses and makes a fuss of them but ties them to things they shouldn't be tied to and stuff. He's a potential accident the minute I turn my back.
 
My OH is quite scared of horses and tends to keep out of the way. He does DIY for me (mends rails, put the automatic feeder and some shelves up) but I do have to nag before he gets round to it. He does feed them if I have to go away with work though which is very good of him because he is quite nervous of them. He draws the line at mucking out though - I have to get someone else in for that task ! He is really supportive though - he will always turn up to watch me compete, and if I organise any clinics he is brilliant at videoing people, setting up the TV to play it back, burning it on to CD for them... even though he thinks horse people are slightly mad

When hubby walks on the yard, in Donkey's eyes I don't exist - they adore each other - well he is the treatmeister!!!

Last night he watched her being clipped - I asked if he would help hold her for the next one, no he won't hold her - he wants to do the clipping

and I am sure he will do a much better job than me! So I still get to administer the drugs and hold onto the twitch

My OH insists that I have a ginger one, and the other is a slightly less ginger one with black bits on its legs .... hmm otherwise known as bay!!

Other than that, he thinks that every time I sling some much in the barrow, its aimed at him, and that pciking feet out is not a task he can complete because hes left handed! Oh and he can take a rug off, but in the most bizarrest way I cant even describe!
 
Big expensive pet!!!!!! LOL! No, he sees my horse as part of the family and likes him because he is a character and makes me happy! He comes with me a fair bit at tea time to 'see him' and give him a pet and fuss. But he is not interested in taking it any further and that suits me.
 
My Oh used to be scaredof horses, even nervous around a shetland.

now he has Beau,a 7.3hh 6yr old WB, and even rides Lance,who can be a heeky monkey.
he LOVES them both, but the adores beau, OH only has to go near him and Beau starts grooming him, and he has got so much confidence from him.

The man that used t be scared to even walk loves galloping through the fields now.
