Whats your opinions on staffys?

Oh i while i have still got it in my mind is there any such thing as a king staff?I have never heard of this,i know you got the american staffy, britsh staffy and the minature but i have never heard of this someone tried telling me a lil while ago their dog was a king staff and i said theres no such thing?am i right or wrong?

It might be the new name for the UK 'irish staff'!!!! Basically staffies with pit bull blood that came into the country, they used to call them irish staffs, but now most people have caught wind of this ancestory, so possible that the 'chavs!!' have renamed them!!!!??

Just googled king staff and you get images but no information. Perhaps it is just another name for a staff ( god knows why another is needed), but who knows. Back to chavv name for them maybe.

LOL Sorry Scratchy!

But good detective work, and yes, back to the old chav line...

"yer man, dis is a King staff yknow, propa nasty like yea"

Not my kind of dog- used to work for a vet in Birmingham and you could tell the staffie owners as soon as they started to speak on the phone. The dogs were (without exception) loud, severely dog-aggressive and virtually unhandleable. Even when I moved to a posh area of London, the staffies I met would attempt to "take out" my dogs on leadsand have had to kick a few of them (sadly was not brave enough to attempt this with the owners...).

Now, in their defence (the dogs not the owners) I know that the dogs I met were not socialised or trained properly. I know that most dogs could be like this if not trained and I know that there are some lovely ones around. I just happen to have met the worst ones imaginable and still always pick my small dog up when I see one. I could not imagine having one of my own and am embarrassed to say that I am still a bit racist about staffies for this reason...... Sorry everyone!

^^ makes me very sad.

I was discussing this with a lady and her staff puppy at the vets. We both agreed that if everyone picks up their dogs and runs screaming from the staff puppy - how on earth do they every get the chance to socialise - people are creating their own catch 22 situation.

I leave my small dogs down when ANY dog approaches. I am always wary and always tuned in to their body language etc but let me say by far the worst reaction my dogs have ever had is from SMALL DOGS!

Yup, I sometimes want to slap myself for being so closed minded! Especially when the dear old lady looks at me in horror when I do it! I then put him down to meet friendly dog, although this has only happened once and mostly the dog had glared at my boy as I swing him to safety.... I have just had so many bad experiences that I am not going to risk it I'm afraid. :(

I've also googled King Staff, and found very little information, I read this forum discussion: http://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboar...-king-staffs-american-staffs-4-sale-t4094.htm
and like I suspected it seems 'King Staff' is a term for a cross breed SBT, basically to breed a staff with more height etc to aim more at the status dog market! I would be very interested to see the pedigree of anyone with a 'king staff' and see if all generations are KC registered SBT because the KC does not recognise Irish staff or King staff!

These King Staffs seem to be pit bull crosses, mastiff crosses and american bulldog crosses on a whole from general discussions.

I also saw on youtube someone calling their dog a king bullterrier, it definately had EBT in it!!!

having grown up with a staffy til I was around 9 from birth, she was always a total little sweetheart with me, and speaking as a current staffy owner, he is a total sweetie and loves kids - sometimes gets a little over excited with them but he's only just over a year old.

Staffys are fab!

Love them, have had lots! My wee girl is 4yo and is the best dog ever shes a wee gem manners to burn does everything shes told, fantasic with all kids, people dogs etc even though she was viciously attacked by a dog a year ago and almost died! Never barks unless we are playing etc! They are pretty energetic and need a good amount of exercise - definitely not just a wee lap dog

Blacksabbeth, not offended in the least but not sure why your reaction to someone saying GSDs are good family dogs. I've grown up with them and wouldn't have anything else.

Hi Scratchy, welcome aboard :)

I'm clearly in the minority, but I cannot stand them. Ugly dogs IMO, maybe its just the ones I have seen but the heads look too big for the body and their jaws annoy me. :o

Like any dog, I would trust it with kids on an individual basis. In fact I think they are too friendly at times, as they ones I meet keep clambering all over you and I really cannot stand them! :o

Staffy lover through and through. I have my 2 snoring on either side of me as I type!. Both are excellent yard dogs as steer well away from the horses and do meet and greet everyone. Unfortunately I do have to agree that the younger boy can be a little OTT as he is SO pleased to see his friends but people know to yell down at him when he legs it upto them and he is much better. My bitch very rarely jumps up and if someone is nervous, she is the dog I "introduce" because I can rely on her to keep all 4 paws on the ground. They are both mega energetic but a good walk takes the steam out of them (and thank god for the tennis ball thrower). Both are rescues - I had one previously and prior to that we had puppies. A properly socialised staffie pup is fine with other dogs - the biggest problem with a staff is that if they are attacked, then they can often go on the defensive, whereas another breed might forgive and forget. I introduce mine to new dogs on a one on one basis to make sure everything is OK but am very aware, that as a staffie owner I can not afford to take any risks or further hurt the breed.

I also absolutely hate this "outbreeding". Never thought I would be a fan of kennel club standards, but seeing how much the breed is changing.. you see a proper standard staffy and they are now beginning to look very different from the normal "street" staff.

Mine aren't show standard but aren't too far from type - which is why people have often been surprised when they ask me what breed mine are. I would post pix but have no idea how to do it!

I like Staffies, they can be very loveable fun dogs. I used to walk, or rather sprint!! with my next door neighbours through the woods, she was a little sweetie. In the wrong hands (as with any dog) can be agressive but in general i don't think they are at all. They tend to snore & breathe loudly though which is very annoying :D

When i reffered to a GSD it was not meant as a nasty comment but just thought it was out of order for someone to put a staffy down when a GSD,Rottie and similar breeds are in the same category at the moment with all the bad press so i just couldnt understand why somone could be so breed selective,as every breed of dog could have an off day?But i do like GSD as my farther in law had one and she was a fab dog,but once again i have met bad GSD as well as good the same with any breed, infact it was a GSD who attacked one of my staffys, but i dont hold nothing against the breed because of this,so sorry if i offended didnt mean too.
LOL,LOL,funny enough it was a chavvy kind of person who told me there dog was a king staff,i knew there was such thing as this breed,i just wish sometimes people would get there facts right! For instance if someone asked me if my two were papered my answer would be no,but i know my two are staffys,i will post some pics just to proove my point, lol.I think its brilliant how everyone has said how they either like the breed and dont,oh and just because i own two staffs,im no chav init, lol.

This is my younger staffy and son to my other boy.Not the best pic im afraid.Hes 4 this year.

and this is my other staffy, with a smile for you, lol.Hes 6 now and is going grey around hes muzzle,my other boy is more of a manic staffy and loves absolutely everybody,as the one in this pic has a beautiful nature and the most chilled out attitude to life,so i supose i have the best of both worlds.

I'm with Tinkerbee on this one, and really not a fan of them :o I don't like their look, the noise and I've had to kick a few off my own dogs before!

That is such a shame!!!about kicking them off your dog, like i said i can understand how some people feel, thing is everyone has said about the noise they make, now my younger one does but my older one is as quiet as a mouse you wouldnt even notice that he was in the house and when people come round he does not make the noise still. But i can understand everyones good points and bad points.
