Were they never once young? Did they ever run or shout? Did they not learn how to behave, the point being that they Learnt?
My children have been on yards for the last three years. Never had a problem with them. They know one end bites, the other end kicks, and if they're very lucky they'll be allowed to sit in the middle
. They are used by all and sundry for anything from mucking out/holding horses/fetching bedding/filling hay nets/being grooms at shows/crash test jockey. Even the non-horsey one helps out and mucks out and will give anyone a hand.
An eleven year lad is helping with Little Lad at the moment. He insists on mucking out to the same standard as my fourteen year old daughter insists on
. He is quiet and calm with the horses, but once out of the yard is a normal young lad.
They're children, they'll make a noise
Having heard some of the cackling and screeching 'adults', I'd take a child any time
.
People taking my stuff and not cleaning it/putting it back. Other peoples gear in or in front of my stables when I want to tie my neds up.
Landing on my head when I have a perfectly good ar$e to land on!
i have open teamchased in the past, and its a miricle ... trying to get a team together EVERYONE can jump 6 foot hedges and will deffo be happy to join the team, when they are stood safley on 2 feet, but put them on a horse and try get them to the start line and let the excuses roll... hangover, horse feels like it could poss lose a shoe, aunties wedding that they forgot was on the same day, you name it...why not just say no to start with
Also with difficult horses
"I could get on that horse and sort it by doing blah blah blah"
"Ok do you want a go then"
"I would but unfortunatley im too busy for the next 20 years "
I always liken a horse that doesn't want to be caught to me, when I've been cornered into doing housework - you have to do whatever is in your power to avoid it!
I don't care, I'll be as bad mannered as you want!
I have so many!
People who think it is okay to tell you and everybody their opinions about our horse when they have been riding for 6months and don't have a clue what there talking about.
people who use things in the wrong way, i don't really use training aids but have no problem with people using them correctly but why do people use side reins etc etc to yank the horses nose to its chest and hold it there?!?! then pull with their hands but kick and whip?!
People who think horses are machines, dragging their horse in from field throwing tack on that doesn't fit galloping 5 times round a field then throwing horse straight back out with tea.
this is makes me cringe more than anything. Watching a young girl go flat out on her pony going get up, hupp, growling and just generally shouting at her pony to go faster.
not helped by her fan club at the side doing much of the same. But she normally get placed in the class so must be doing something right
never understood it myself.
My biggest pet hate is people coming up to me asking for help/advise then going and asking everyone else the same question with the same answer until they get an answer they like. Follow said advice then come back to me with the same problem wondering why.

People criticising others when they probably have no knowledge of the horse, it's health, maintenance or anything else about it, in RL or on a forum, although admittedly on a forum there is room for misunderstanding.
Oh Enfys I loved that. If you search on youtube for 'Cleveland Bay Stallion and Shagya Arabs you will see my four year old stallion doing join up with me all the way to the yard.
Since we shot that film I don't even bother with a headcollar. He is kind with all the mares, two geldings and a colt foal that is not his. He comes when called and follows me and puts himself in the stable.
Last year he ran with a mare who has produced a lovely pure CB foal, in January he will run with two CB mares - he does like grey arabs mind.
I've got so many!
Riders not thanking drivers who slow down for them, I got out & had a go at somebody once who ignored me when I slowed down, very satisfying!
The yard expert, say no more.
People who punish their horse for acting like the prey animal that it is.
People who are over horsed lashing out at their horse because they're scared of it or strapping it head to it's chest with a severe bit when some lessons wouldn't go amiss.
People telling me that I'm lucky to have a horse - no I'm not I work hard & go without, if you want one then maybe you could try it!
People with expensive horses looking down their noses at those who have cheap & cheerful horses.
The gaggle of gossips who sit on their horses & gather around the collecting ring with no intention of actually entering the ring, it's fine to want to have a gossip but do it away from the collecting ring, so those who are entering can get to the ring without having to squeeze their horse past a load of strange horses' bums. I used to tell them to move & I'd then get "he doesn't kick" I don't know that so get out of the way!
I'll stop now but I could go on & on & on..............

Yes that annoyes me as well "you're so lucky to have such a reliable jumper & she's so well behaved!"
It's not luck, I paid for her with my own money, broke her in myself & schooled her myself.
I didn't have a school & did it all on my own in the corner of a field. Grrrrrrrr indeed!!!!
Loads of really good pet hates lol!
I can't stand it when people look down on me.
Bear looks like an old dobbin when he's stood with or without a rider on him, I can feel people looking at him like shite!
But they soon change their opinions when he moves! He has cracking paces for my special little gypo cob
when instructor suggested it after she has spent so long telling me to shut up! She is xc him for me next week as I'm broke so will be interesting to see how noisy she is!
People who park their car infront of my trailer hitch, then I arrive to go out and have to find them to move it - then they say - I didn't know you were going out.. well you wouldn't would you love - I don't have to ask permission.
People who canter up behind me in collecting rings, and then ask if the green ribbon in my horses tail is just for decoration!!!!!! whilst i am departing at top speed to the other side of the warm up area!!!!!! 1 of the first things I ever learnt, was red, it kicks, green, its young, white, it's a stallion!!! It is not even just kids who don't know, I had an adult come up to me and say "I really like the ribbon in your horses tail, but I wouldn't have chosen green I don't think it suits him. I would have chosen purple"
