The Natural fit for the Snaffle: Forget the one, two and three wrinkle theory. The snaffle bit should fit like your underwear... loose and comfortable! Lower the bit in your horse's mouth until it does not pull at his lips. It is better to have it hung low as this causes the horse to pick it up and suck on it, holding it in place. He'll then hold it in the position that is just right for him and keep his mouth closed.

I came across this on a web site and wanted to know if anyone had tried it, and does it work??

But then what is to stop the horse dropping the bit and p*ssing off with you?
And what if your horse doesn't want to pick it up and suck it? It's going to bang about in it's mouth then.
Not something I am about to try I don't think.

Always open to new ideas as I dont think anything is written in stone, if it works with your particular beastie then great, however I dont think I will be trying it though as sucking and rattling round his lordships teeth wont bless him, being a ginger pony it doesn't take a lot to upset him.

Not sure about this - loose would definately not work for my sports bra and as for comfortable? Well, you may suffer but suspenders look darn good!

As for the snaffle, can't say I want my horse's bit dangling around so it can bang his teeth.

I dont agree with thise- horse hate the bit being too low, it seems to annoy them

totally agree with you,i learnt this at the weekend,i put a new bit on my mares bridle and me being blonde totally forgot to do it up one hole and half way round the hack she was snatching it and throwing her head in the air and generally telling me she was unhappy! realised when i got back what i'd done and felt so bad as i hate my horse being uncomfy in any way under saddle. I just wasn't with it and i would never do it delibratley as it must be very uncomfy for them.

All very well but unless the bit rings are big, the bit gets pulled through their mouth when you turn.

Don't think it should be massively high either but it's got to be touching the mouth a bit, not just hanging in there!

Dont think loose undies would be good for me a bloke either, need to keep things together not banging about, looking for an automatic nut shuffler on ebay in the equestrian section, but no luck yet.

I was more interested in the Horseanilty thing!
Havent done it yet though, but looked interesting!
Thats when i found the above on the bit, and thought to myself are you mad, and just wondered if anyone had tried it!!!

This goes for some bits, generally "solid" fixed types, some Mylers, the hippus and the pee wee are a few examples. However with jointed snaffles, this will drop the joint in their mouths, and as said will just be uncomfortable for the horse.

I agree with you on the underwear front for sure.
And also I remember when first buying my horse and not fitting the bit properly for the first time he chucked his head every where.
So i guess there is no body out there who has tried it!
I think i will stick to the orignal way!
