not a venue but PC area trials, first year-pony stopped (never ever stops) at water once.
second-ok, did ok,
third year-was moved up to senior too soon-fell off at 4th fence on third refusal.
4th year-both horse and I took a cropper going round a corner.
At the same venue as the 4th year, later in the eventing season my horse ran his head into a tree (steering disagreement) and had a huge nosebleed and suspected fracture.
Too many trees at that venue!
So not doing it again!
For jumping Towerlands definitely, fell off 1st pony there and could't get him to jump a thing, then fell off and broke my hand jumping Patrick there too but for dressage its fine.
For dressage I don't really have an unlucky venue, I have venues I like more than others but not unlucky ones.
My current horse hates Merrist Wood with a passion, he cant cope being in that big space and freaks. Last horse jumped fine there but never quite got it together there.
i know i know, getting there alone is amazing!!! but i got there 4 years on the trot, managed 5th the first time i went, and never did as well again, even tho i was becoming more successfull at other high class venues, ie RIHS..
Towerlands.
first time i went, i was 10 yrs old. my vile pony (who would jump absolutely anything at home, and refuse at 6" at a show) stopped twice at the first (which was tiny), and then had me off stopping at the second. i nearly died of shame.
many many many years later i moved heaven and earth to get there for an early version of the Pre-season Eventers challenge. horses went okay, no prizes, but both caught a virus in the stabling, and missed half the season... i lost hundreds in non-refundable entries, and it wrecked my whole campaign.
oh yes, and i ended up there one year when i went to Dynes Hall for day-before A dressage, and when i got my times they'd forgotten to tell me that the dressage was being held at Towerlands, not at Dynes... fraught doesn't even begin to describe it. not the best test ever, put it that way...
never going back!
For daughter's pony - Arena UK. The jumps are really flimsy looking and they don't back him off enough so he just gets faster and faster.....It's not that good for me either - fell off three times in clear round
Sapey. Bloody awful journey there always, and whenever I have xc schooled horse gone dreadfully. Ground deadful and no atmosphere. Had a stonking horse fall there last summer in their Horse Trials, and have since vowed never to go back there.
Field House EC without a doubt. Horse never goes well & the 4x4 has had problems when we go there. Fuses blew one night.... replaced & all ok.
Went to loads of other places without problem, returned to Field House & fuses blew again!.
Next time we went the boot door lock jammed & we couldn't get into the boot for tack so had to remove the back seat to get at the tack!. Wouldn't mind but is isn't old....never had a problem anywhere else!
Anyway, got Discovery Double Clear this weekend there, nothing went wrong with 4x4....hopefully the jinx is now lifted
Don't have one now, used to be Mayhill. I have even managed to knock myself unconscious there, but have since had great success. I used to think it was cursed.
*madly touches wood* dont have one bad venue, managed to disgrace myself at most local ones, but seem to have made it up since. Arena Uk used to be, but last outing there was great...although, Stafford prob isnt looking good, got Elim first time there and then horse went lame so didnt make it there for second event....3rd time lucky
Has to be Hunters. Really lovely place, very well organised but Gen hates it.
Last time we went he stood up on his hind legs and walked backwards towards the arena entrance!
We havent been back since as it was too embarrising.
Oh and there was always one particular judge who even on the odd ocassion when Gen did behave she still gave him poo marks. She once made the comment "what a jolly pair" hmmmmm ............
