Ive just cleaned one of the barns out and made it into a tack/feed room so am going to get organised and put a worming programme up, just wondered what you use at what time of year, thanks

Mine are worm counted in September, then wormed for tape with a tape wormer or if necessary a multi-wormer in October, Equest in December for encysted red worm, then another worm count in April.

I rarely get a worm count that is anything other than clear or low as mine are in their own field which is cleared of poo every day, so I can get away with two worm counts and one wormer for tape and one for encysted red worm most of the time.

Mine are wormed with Equest Pramox in November time, then have worm counts done every 3 months.....

The Pramox is meant to kill off encysted (sp?!) redworm and tapeworms, which are the 2 that dont show up in the wormcount.....If I had anything but a low worm count result, I would worm according to the lab's recommendations.....

I only have my horses in the field, and also poo pick once, if not twice, daily.

I worm for encysted in jan, tape in the autumn and do worm counts spring and end of summer. Our three are at home though, so the only horses in the field and we poo-pick pretty much every day.

We worm for tapeworm and encysted redworm (Pramox or similar) in the Autumn, and worm again for tapeworm in the spring. In between this we do regular droppings tests and worm if necessary (haven't had to yet). We poo pick daily and there are two horses that are in the paddock and no other horses graze the area apart from these two. We have done this now for the past three years and are pleased with the system.

One of our two got very sick after having flu tet and wormer close together so we dont worm routinely.

We worm count 4x a year, and blood test for tapeworm in winter (as that doesnt show up in worm counts), worming for tapeworm if result is positive.

The only thing that means we might be missing is encysted redworm, so the pony occasionally is wormed for that. But with big old chap we dont take the risk, on balance, and vet is in agreement with that.

Cos old chap is grumpy hes in with sheep and pony in field next door, so no mixing. Rotated with sheep, regular fresh ground and poo picked normally every day but at least every other day.

Only once has worm count come back with a low positive, other than that always zero.

I asked my vet about this, he told me to worm my horses 4 times a year with pramox. Told me i didnt have to use anything else. Best thing on the market!
